A bit of rain at the rally yesterday, but mostly not.

A long, fun day.
A long, fun day.

Dave how did the lock wire hold up on your muffler?

My bike did 1513 miles to get to and from the NZ NOC Annual Rally and AGM in Akaroa ,South Island.
Most rain we had was while watching the CAM 's BEARS racing at Ruapuna Raceway on the Sunday.
I was away eight days , out of five bikes that did that similar trip, one broken primary belt and a loose header pipe, other wise trouble free.

Hope you got home without any more issues.

Regards Mike

Hey Mike, the wire was untested, as the muffler mounts held up for the duration. With only some rattling. Thanks for the insurance, though!

Had pissing rain about an hour out of ChCh all the way to Picton ferry, but traffic was light so we made good time.

The run from Wellington to Auckland was clear and a bit crisp, and largely uneventful. Only marred by a citation down a long hill before Taihape for 115 in a 100.

Some 98 helped the pinging, so baaaad Caltex.

I did about the same mileage, but 5 days. My ass was only sore from about Hamilton to home. Slept like a baby after.

That was a good run mate. I like stories like that when you ride your bike.
These bikes can do it without a trailer to any event. Just set them up right.
Cheers,
Thomas

Good one Dave, hence the radar detector on my bike and I ride in front so we can maintain that 4000 rpm/70mph everywhere.
Its stops five of us from being ticketed!!!

Doesnt pick up on speed cameras though, just the radars in the cars .
Regards Mike

Good to hear all had a good run back.
Had to go to Wairoa for work yesterday (4 wheels :() and stopped for a coffee just outside town, shortly after i sat down 3 clattery old bikes burbled into the carpark.
Had a quick catch up with Kob, Dal and Nat before i had to head off. Good timing.

Yeah, I got lucky. Well, relatively. Most of the trip I was running a bit hotter than that at 4500 rpm... 21T

Radar would have definitely helped, as the cop got me as he came head on to me around a bend.

Hi Dave
Like your bike, looks good, also those panniers, good to hear your had a good run.
Rain? and what is that snow, yep I saw some snow once near Lake Tahoe (1990), jumped on the ski lift thingy, but didn't know how to get off, wife and I did a face plant in the white stuff after everyone was screaming at us to get off, walked/slipped and slid back down after that terrifying event.
Don't know about rest of us Aussies but my mates and I park our bikes up a little before and after Christmas because it is too hot to ride, our first run for the year is this weekend, just a one day rally, around 250Km.
Regards
Burgs

Too hot in Feb to ride up here and only managed one ride before the big one. Coming back from Kaikoura. we hit rain north of Amberley till we got close to Conway. Easy ride through to Kaikoura where I clocked up 240 km according to Dave's triumph [ 150 miles ] before refueling [ 10.98 l ] and before the other trap was turned on. Struck pissing rain heading inland from the coast through Seddon and nearly to Blenheim. Had a great ride up the North island, and nearly got caught, having to turn the second tap on just south of Manunui where I filled up and added 10.98 l again. Only did about 200 ks that time. not sure why i had to turn the other tap on though????
The only downside to the trip was Dave and I picked up colds on the rally . I wasn't feeling so good when I left Havelock and by the time we got to Wellington to the motel, neither of us were that great. I dragged Dave out to have a meal with my two sons in Courtenay Place that night, and neither of us felt like eating.

70 and 4000 seem to agree with these bikes.

This must be the first rally I have been on where I didn't have to tinker with the bike a[art from adding a litre of oil overall. [ i wont consider scrapping the plugs at Dave's place though ]
