hi, have any of you kiwis managed to buy any rims or spokes over here at reasonable prices. i need to rebuild my rear wheel and will probably need the rim drilled too. it hits 40 on jan 1st so the rego goes from $550 a year down to just over $100 so id better get her going again eh. thanks guys, john

Is it your reading comprehension or your mental agility that is going ??
If it turns 40 on 1st Jan, then its a 1973.
This is a COMMANDO list, so its possibly a Commando.
Nortons didn't make much else in 73.
If its 1973, then its either an 850 or a 750, disk braked.
An 850 strictly wouldn't be quite 40 yet, so its a 750 (?).
They were all the same 750 and 850, mechanically, about then anyway..
You'll have to excuse JAW, he doesn't actually own a Commando, just lurks here.

Sorry can't help much though with new rims, mine are still good.
Central Wheel is sometimes mentioned,

Andover Norton also has all things Commando, and then some.
http://www.andover-norton.co.uk/

stainless sound like the go, but haven't tried them.
Stainless rims also come from India, but the reports aren't so good ??

P.S. We see that Andover Norton are moving - to Andover !
Makes sense.....

Crikey, Sherlock..I mean Rohan, your powers of reduction are hardly credible.. Disc brakes didn`t show up on the rear `til the Mk 3 850...
How do you know the subject machine has its original wheels -or what he wants to do with it? Maybe he wants a fat 16 inch rear meat...
Moderator! Rohan is being uncivil! Thats the 2nd time he has rudely/abusively referred to me as a 'lurk'-type..

73 had a disk front brake.
Sorry, didn't mean to confuse you, not having a Norton and all that...
(So when are you buying this Norton ? )

P.S. Have you tried British Only in NZ, or whatever they are called these days, they had the best prices around at one stage, not sure if that is still so...

Not sponging old boy, - I `d let you have a go on something of mine - that`d rock your chunters, big time ..in exchange..

I see. Still got to get it going and out of the shed so that I can have a ride on it... !
Along with some project dommies....

Whaaa? nothing to ride, washing your hair, nothing to wear... excuses.. excuses.. Burt would not approve, & too much lurking possibly..

I got Tom Morris to build me up a set of wheels for my T110 , stainless rims ( Engilsh, not the crap Indian ones that are welded poorly and the holes are in the wrong place.) and ss spokes.

There are other places, I usually do mine myslelf but at $80 labour a wheel its hardly worth bothering ....
The 40 year rego is good, goes from a $600 modern to a $117 classic....cars are about $110 too.
Britsh Spares are good for parts too.

If you dont want to stay original send me your hubs and I'll lace them to alloy flanged rims of the same size with 8g stainless spokes for $450 + the shipping cost back to NZ.

hi, thanks for the help people. to stop any more disagreements its the last of the 750 roadies with a non cushy rear drum. i should have done the wheel earlier as ive had time while the gearbox is out, and now the hols are almost here im guna force myself to get back in the garage and put the thing back together.
i work in a wee bike shop in duners all day so i tend to procrastinate a bit when i work on my own stuff :D
i got a price today off wheel and spoke and was just checking if there was anywhere else.

British spares in Nelson (Motueka) ( if Tim has remebered to order any ! )

flibity You should take madass140 up on his offer, that seems like a sweet deal. You could pay him with the money your saving on the new reduced registration and it'd be a wash :)

I just got a couple of Morad ali (non valenced)WM3's from British Motorcycle Parts in Aukland and had Craig Hambling of Fielding (Hamco Industries) make spokes and lace them for me
Regards Mike

Let me know what you do and how it turns out. My rims have chrome peeling off in places but good cond stainless spokes. Uncertain whether to try to get re-chromed or junk and go tonew chrome or stainless.

Mike. Lost your details, but thanks for the help you gave on wiring loom for indicators when I first got bike... Cheers Richard

hi guys, cheers for the ideas. i do use brit spares for some small stuff or things i need quickly, but i find them to be very expensive on the larger stuff. i think its guna be a vallanced ally and ss spokes from wheel and spoke. gunna do it myself even though they only charge 75 of our metric dollars. might even put a nice tyre on it too.
something ive wondered for a while is how many commies are still around in this fine country?
