Chaps,

I've been lurking on here for a while, both as a member and anonymously and I just wanted to say thanks to all of you for all the very useful info and knowledge you've shared. There are a couple of sites like this out there and I think this particular forum is really constructive, while also being realistic about what to expect when things go off-piste.... :-)

Anyway I ordered my euro 4 café a month ago and will be picking it up later this week.

Steve

Welcome to the community. You probably went through the same angst as the rest of us - you hear of problems and think 'do I really want to risk it?' then you look at the bike and think 'it looks so good and it is so unique I really want one' then suddenly the decision is made. At least you have a realistic view of ownership and I never hesitate to say how much I am enjoying my '17 CR and it was the best thing I've done in years. Looking forward to seeing the pics and meeting you on the road. Clive

Good choice with the Cafe Steve. What colour black is it??

I sat on the fence, and in fact, when from one extreme to the other REPEATEDLY for a few years before finally taking the plunge and buying mine.

I’ve only had it since March, but so far (fingers crossed etc) I could not be happier with it!

Thanks both, I've wanted one for a very long time and plan on keeping it even longer. Ti Grey in colour, de-cated, short opens + remap 6500019. Hopefully should be alright apart from a bit of occasional hot start nonsense. Got it from Lloyd Cooper for a fair saving against RRP. So far the factory have been very helpful with all my questions etc.

It's the damned shape of the thing that gets you. Nothing looks like it. The Thruxton looks great but something was missing ,it just felt a bit sterile. Do you guys have any other recommended mods?

Do you guys have any other recommended mods?

Remove the horrid reflectors off of the forks and the rear end.
Fit neater screws in place of the stock unused mirror stubs.
Fit smaller indicators.
Fit iridium plugs and better plug leads (Magnecor in U.K.)
Fit tank protector (see threads on this)
Check oil cooler doesn’t hit mudguard when forks compressed
There are other mechanical and electrical mods, but so far, on my mk11, none have been required.

Remember that some 961s suffer voltage drop, so keep it on a trickle charge until you know how yours behaves.

Hey Eddie, what model of Iridium Plugs did you install ? Do you have a link where I could get the better plug leads ? tx !!

As Fast Eddie except keep those smart front safety reflectors ;). Keep the original indicators cos that's what it came like and they work fine;);). And most important find your local Esso station which sells Supreme Plus ethanol free fuel unless you like your petrol tank to have the structural rigidity of an ASDA shopping bag. A Davida open face helmet, Goldtop jacket and Lewis Leathers boots finish it off a treat!

NGK CR9EIX. I get mine from here in order to try and avoid nasty knock offs: http://www.gsparkplug.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=NGK+CR9EIX

For leads, there’s Richards leads via cNw. But if you’re in Europe, or want black leads and caps (Richards leads are red) scroll down to the bottom of page 22 here:

Re: Pipes. I don't know how the Norton long open pipes sound, but we here in the US have the now defunct long open South Bay Norton pipes that sound meatier and deeper, fairly loud rather than loud and raspy like a Duc with Temignoni pipes. Get the shorties if you want to be obnoxious. Could care less about the signals and reflectors. That said.....Fast Eddie's bike is one bad ass MoFo.

Obnoxious... how very dare you? That would require Marquess of Queensbury rules to resolve here sir!

Anyway, here’s the ‘badass mofo’ sans reflectors. Now to play ‘spot the turn signals...’

A big thank you

Ok on the turn signals, right up to your first MoT, when you may find you'll have to remove them or retro fit arms to gain the required 130mm seperation. Bloody rules!

I know exactly how great the Norton long opens sound with half the sound adsorption missing. So does half of Middle England. Your preference for the long pipes marks you as an educated man who appreciates style and form. Unlike the unwashed vulgar ruffians who insist on attaching those stumpy excrescences to their bikes.
