I had a situation about 6 months ago when the oil pressure light came on at around 900 rpm hot when I idle off in 1st gear with the front brake on, as the normal idle is 1200 rpm and wasn't coming on at that I would not of known the issue if I had not of got the idle rpm down. I tested the oil pressure, from memory I was only getting around 8 psi at 1200 rpm & about 25 psi at 3000. I dismantled the oil pump and gave the relief valve a light hit with 1200 wet & dry then put it back together, fresh oil and tested again, bang nearly 40 psi at idle and the relief valve kicked in just below 60psi around 4000 rpm. Since then I have had that in the back of mind, so I bit the bullet and put an electric oil pressure gauge in (BAR not PSI). No doubting now, I can see where it's at!

Hi Rick
Nice bit of gear.
Can I ask where you got it from?
Thanks
Simon

Cool!
It really enhances the classic character of the 961 too.
An ammeter next to the pressure gauge would be even better.
Well done.

Like it Rick. I take it that you had to move the bikini fairing on it’s Mount? It looks higher than standard, or is it an optical illusion?

Dominator and cafes have clip ons and the gauge cluster is different compared to commandos with upright bars.

No Steve, but it's a tight fit, have a piece of rubber in between the fairing and gauge so it doesn't wear the fairing!

My fairing touches the top of my clocks so there is no way I could squeeze a gauge in that space as there is no space!

There are at least two configurations of bikini fairing that I have seen. Always thought it was the Mk2 that introduced the slightly steeper angled more streamlined looking fairing? May be wrong - often am  Apologies for crap pix!

The screens delivered on the 961s are dart screens, not really bikini fairings.

Bikini fairings, like full fairings, wrap around the headlight, then have a screw-on upper clear screen.
I'd love to have someone introduce a real bikini fairing for the 961.

Must be a difference in models. Mine is a 2016 Mick Grant Special.

I mounted the oil pressure gauge in 2mm stainless plate which is mounted under the cluster rubber gasket held there by the cluster cups.
It required carefully cutting the top lip of the 2 rubber gaskets off to make room for the extra 2mm thickness.
The 2mm Stainless plate was cut by CNC, below is the image of what it looked like and a link for the dxf file for the CNC if anyone else wants to do the same.

Nice work, where did you mount the sending unit, I think it is 1/8 npt?
Bill

Don’t you boys have enough to be paranoid about without fitting ‘worry gauges’ ?!?

Sorry Bill I just saw your post. I replaced the old oil pressure switch with the new sender unit. What I thought would be straight forward, turned out to be the most time consuming of the whole install.
The new sender unit is the standard 1/8 npt but the hole in the engine casing is M10x1.25. So I needed to get a 1/8 npt Female to M10x1.25 Male adapter. This was the problem, everyone I asked had not heard of that combination, I couldn't find any in Australia, so I got an Alloy one from the UK which was a mistake, it was too weak and just snapped on the install. I found a Steel adapter from a hydraulic hose company in the US which was good and strong.

Why didn’t you use the oem pressure sensor?
