850 mk 3 battery

Like an oil thread, their are tons of opinions. I'm all done with flooded lead acid batteries in my powersports stuff. A QUALITY AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) battery is my first choice. The Deka Powersports is a quality US made battery, work well http://www.dekabatteries.com/default.aspx?pageid=510

The newest Lithium batteries, IMHO, offer a small weight savings, for a LOT more money, and so far, arguable longevity. There is a thread on it here: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.p ... 34&page=20
 
I'm using an AGM, upgraded cables, and a starter from DynoDave - combination works flawlessly (for me anyway).
 
I've been using one of these since 2006 with no problems. It is slightly tall, and when I come to replace this battery I will see if there is one slightly shorter i.e. less height, but if not I'd be happy to get another. The height makes it awkward to fit the minus terminal fittings, that's all.

When we last discussed MK3 batteries in this forum (last year?) I recommended the Yuasa YTX20CH-BS because of its power specs (18 A-H and 270 CCA) and its size (its 6 x 3-7/19 x 6-3/8 inch dimensions just fit in the Mk3 battery cradle). At the time there was discussion over whether this battery utilized flooded or AGM technology; the acid is always shipped in a separate container and added by the customer. This product is now unambiguously described by the manufactuter and retailers as AGM. Technology has moved on since I installed this battery in my Mk3 three years ago, but I would NOT install a battery in a Mk3 that did not meet or exceed the 18 A-H, 270 CCA power specs of the Yuasa. Don't forget the Comeau starter, 3-phase alternator system, 6-gauge wiring, and a new sprag and both mating parts; the Mk3 needs all of it for reliable starting.

I have a Yuasa YTX20 AGM that came new in my 2005 Ski-Doo, in service fall of 2004. Summers it goes in my other vintage bike, a 750cc electric start paralell twin. I just ran the sled last weekend, started like gangbusters at 0F. That's eight years (so far) of rather strenuous duty.. :mrgreen:
