What the heck is up with 850 exhaust nut prices 70 bucks apiece at old britts and 80+ each at commando specialties. Are they made of some precocious metal now?

Andover Norton price £25.50 GBP ($40.80 USD and no VAT to pay for US customers) each.

I find items all the time now that have all of a sudden doubled or tripled in price for no apparent reason. For/ex went to get a car battery which has been 40-50 bucks, now 90. Algae wafers for my Pleko priced at $7 for 2 oz. Thats $56 per lb. I fumed over it for a while then took it back and told the guy he is nuts. I think what is happening is people are not buying as much so companies want to continue to post sales $ increases so they just jack the price. I shop the internet, craig's list, and know my prices. Refuse to buy stuff that is ridiculous in price and tell the merchant so. You have to fight back because we ain't got much money and they all want to take it from us.

I about choked when I went to buy a set. I'll definitely shop around some more. Go figure commando specialties has a set of peashooters for 130 bucks and then two exhaust nuts for 170. I stay away from the peashooters because I worry about poor sound/quality at such a low price and stay away from the exhaust nuts for the opposite reason.

well you could always look at it this way - the nuts are $150 for the pair right? The bike is what 40 years old

$150/40= $3.75 for a year - not to bad

or are we starting to sound like those old guys i used to dread talking to ..

"back in my day soda water was a nickle and dang nab it it didn't give me cancer either.."

well at least for the first few weeks of the new year!

Well if I owned the bikes you have I'de be optimistic too. Nice. I paid a small fortune for a set of exhaust nuts months ago but they are beeeautiful polished stainless ones from that guy Tim who makes great stainless stuff like rocker spindle plates etc. His plates seal with a O -ring instead of the gaskets, never tried them & a little nervouse about how long the O ring would last but he says they work fine. Good luck with the exhaust nuts, that does seem like way to much $ for them. How much are the bronze ones? I think they are suposedly the best as far as being simalar to the aluminum head for expansion & contraction and therfore not coming loose.

I have some of these on mine. They are for un-balanced pipes and from Norvil.

010399 LOCKRING - EXHAUST - BRONZE - FOR UNBALANCED PIPES - STAY TIGHT £ 17.06 GBP or $26.62 USD

We can't be too hard on the retailers with the fluctuating currency and high cost of shipping these days it can't be too easy (or profitable) to stock a lot of these parts. With Andover and other manufacturers selling direct to the public I don't imagine there is much of a deal discount for them. At least they have them in stock and in a pinch you have them in your hands in a short amount of time.

Current Andover Norton nuts are bronze, then chromed, part#06-3988, but you can also have the unchromed bronze ones (cheaper) under 06-3988/1. They were chromed steel originally, which is not as good expansionwise, so the steel ones are getting loose as the head heats up. If you insist on original steel ones I am certain Nick Hopkins of Andover Norton will do you some NOS shop soiled ones at a very good price...

I am usually surprised at how low the prices for parts for our Nortons are, and very appreciative of how readily available they remain and in mosts cases that quality is maintained. I would hate to see Norton parts follow what seems to be the general commercial trend of building down to a price, at the expense of quality.
$80, once you take out the retailer overheads and margin and the manufacturer costs and margin doesn't sound to crazy to me for what will still be a low volume manufacture.
My modern bike is a Ducati, if only parts for it were anywhere near that price. And i ride with guys on modern BMW's, if the exhaust nut had a BMW roundel etched into it you would probably be asked nearer $800 for it.

I got mine on ebay...$110 the pair in SS and NO they do not look stock ! :D
