I need to purchase some Whitworth sockets. Has anyone purchased the 8 pc 3/8 drive set from commando specialties? At $49.95 that seems pretty good. In my sockets i prefer a 6 point piece to the 12 point just for the better bite the 6 provides. Any other sources that are not priced at the full time mechanic level?
Thanks!
Kurt

FWIW ... I bought both my 8 piece Whitworth socket set and 7 piece wrench (spanner) set from Old Britts. The sockets were in the same price range that you are talking about. I've had no problems with either the sockets or wrenches and both fit in those pesky tight areas on the head bolts/nuts when you need to remove or refit it.

I just bought a 7 piece 3/8" drive set off ebay from abtools_uk for $12.95 + $11.50 shipping. I know that cheap tools are sacrilege, but since a socket is a pretty simple tool I thought I would try them. They look fine and seem to fit well, but I haven't put any real torque to them yet.

Shipping is as much as the tools!

I have a socket set, no idea where I got it from. I wonder how much I paid for it. Or when I got it.

Yeah, that's a common occurrence on eBay - e.g., I have an electric impact wrench I paid $15 for, new - plus $16 shipping!

Still a bargain.
