Holy Guacamole!

You used the bike for a work stand ?!?!?!

With the wheels locks on the stand it wont role, and the seat fits the frame loop liked it is locked in. It was so much easier to block it out on the bike, otherwise it was all over the place on the saw horse or I couldn't get to the edges on the table

Yeah, but you made a sloppy mess of the poor bike!

I suppose if it's still going to get worked on, it doesn't really matter...

Paul, I cleaned up the Commando a little for you while I was lightening it up some.

I had a nice day in the sun so I finished the seat pan and mocked it up with the old vinyl to see how it was going to look.

I picked up a set of vintage 70s, 2 into 1, Hooker headers that had been banging around a friends shop for the last 35 years, the glass is gone in them but that can be replaced. I'm having the hardest time getting them into place without interfering with the center stand. when clear of the center stand the pipes don't line up with the ports. I'm sure they were stepped on a few times while in storage.

From everything I have researched lately, the Hooker, MAC and Dunstall exhausts all fowl the center stand. In the MAC literature it states the center stand must be removed.

Damn! I didn't want to have to remove the stand, that was the main reason I bought it. and that Dunstall stand is over $100 on gee bay now :( it doesnt even fit well with the stand up, it will have to come off.

The dunstall stand won't work for you. The dunstall pipe goes down the center, 2-1-2, the hooker and mac down the side 2-1. I have a MAC on my xs650, it fits with the stand, but the norton application dosn't.

yea but the same seller also a set of Dunstall 2 - 1 - 2 pipes on gee bay.

You could spend the money, I like my dunstall pipes. I've made my own center stand. I'm going to add a SS flex joint in the center pipe of mine to relive some of the vibration in the exhaust.

Wonder where you got french newspapers in Florida

Jean

Oddly enough we have plenty down here this time of the year. I just wish they would take their papers and go home, that way I might be able to get a table in a restaurant, We have a canadian talk radio station (Canada Calling) and a network of doctors taking your health Insurance down here too, good thing they are only seasonal.... Damn tourists :)

That particular paper came to me rapped in motorcycle parts :) it was the political section so I didn't read it, :) and as it happens, it was on top of the recycling pile when I need one. Thanks.

Not sure if this helps, but it is how my 2-1 is setup. It clears everything fine with stock center stand. Not sure who made it. I thought it was a Hooker header but not sure as there are no markings at all. Maybe you could bend some new tubes and use the collector? You'll want the packing back in it. Mine is open megaphone and it is earsplitting loud but damn it sounds mean.

Thats exactly what I'm looking for. You have a great looking bike there and welcome to accessnorton.

Thanks, I have given up on the Hooker pipes after pulling the center stand and it still hit the swing arm and Z plates.

The good news is the guy is comming to pick the pipe up tonight and giving me my money back.

Any updates? Been a while and I liked where ya where headed. I ended up replacing the exhaust on mine and going with peashooters so if your interested in that 2-1 I had let me know and I'll give it to ya real cheap if Leo Goff didn't throw it away. He rebuilt most of my bike and had nothing good to say about that 2-1.

Jeff,
I'm interested in the exhaust let me know.

Major set back, the roof was leaking on my little shop for a while and once it got to be more than an occasional nuisance and I got around to do some serious investigation, the damage was done... to make a long story short. I had to replace half of the roof and 2 two of the walls from rot. Once I had half the roof off and walls opened up with two friends and the father in-law here for the weekend project, it started raining again and rained sideways for the rest of the weekend totally destroying all that was left and flooding all my parts bins and tools. So after 4 months of having 4 motorcycles and a mountain of stuff that came out of my 150 Sq foot shop on the Porch and a lot of money I didn't need to spend.

I now have about 250 Sq feet of work and storage space, but still plenty of work left to do on siding and trim, but I have had time to do some work on the bikes, mostly cleaning the parts that spent a few days in a bin full of water and working on finishing the engine rebuild for my 650SS. I am mostly moved back into the shop , and The wife is happy that the pile of my $#!t on the porch is almost gone.

I polished the Sun WM4.5 18 rim for the rear and laced it up this morning and will be mounting an Avon Roadrider AM26 120/80-18 on it , I had already built the front wheel now they both will need to be trued and have tyers mounted and balanced.

I will get in touch with Leo and see if it's still around. It has a decent jot-hot coating but there is a little pitting that was coated where I guess the nameplate was. The exhaust nuts were kinda funny also. They didn't thread all the way in like normal but they were tight and not leaking. Those and tuning the sucker are all the issues. Oh, no baffles either so it roars. It does clear everything very well though. Glad you are getting everything worked out and back working on it. I know how the unexpected wrecks havoc. I just changed jobs and moved from the south all the way out to LA and have bike projects and parts in 3 states now...
I'll pm ya when I find out about that exhaust.

I finished lacing and truing the wheels this afternoon. I think they look pretty good but they will look even better with new shoes. A pair of Avon AM 26 are on the way.

Nice.

I like the look of the drop-center shoulderless rims, have 'em on my Blue bike.

I like the looks of them too, Thanks . I got them from Jeandr but they needed to have a few spokes replaced, so I put off getting the spokes from Buchanan's until I could go over their minimum purchase and get the hubs cleaned up. The spokes came in, but I'm still waiting on the Excel Shouldered rims for the 650SS. They should be here any day.

I kinda enjoyed the build up, I sat on the floor in front of the TV last night watching the depressing news on FOX. The good thing is it kept me from screaming at the Idiots and talking heads, and the wife was happy I wasn't out in the shop.
