71 Commando SS cylinder Barrel

Can someone tell me the from the factory color of the 71 SS cylinder barrel? Black or silver?

Anyone have recommendation for good spray can silver paint?

You can't go by Bacon's book. A number of inaccuracies in his photos. Roadster pipes on Interstates and, oddly enough, Interstate exhausts on a Roadster. Amongst other things.

Couple of points about paint:

Firstly, it’s different in different countries, so if someone in Europe says they use a certain product, there’s no assurance it’ll be available in US, or if it is, that it’s the same actual product.

Secondly, paint laws seem to change frequently, so just because someone says they used a certain product a few years ago, doesn’t mean it’ll work well now.

Silver in particular is tricky, many paints develop a yellow tint after a while. Ask me how I know!

So, take a firm recommendation from someone who’s had good results, fairly recently, local to you.

The 1971 Norton Broucher shows them as silver .

The SS road tested by Cycle Guide dated September '71 had silver barrels....
