I am assembling a Fastback from not all original parts. and need info. on rear fender to battery box assembly. It looks as if there should be a spacer between the box's triangulated bracket and the fender's one attachment hole.
Thanks

I took a look at my Fastback last night (1970 Mk II). The triangle bracket that drops down from the rear of the battery tray looks like it's held onto the tray with a single 5/16" bolt. I believe the horn was originally attached to the bottom of the triangle bracket. On my bike it is assembled with the bolt inserted aft through the tray, through the bracket, then a lock washer & nut to top it off. But that bolt is long enough to extend past the tightend nut and through the rear fender. It's topped off with a rubber washer, fender washer, and a Nyloc nut. Only one thread extends past the Nyloc so it doesn't dig into the tire. There probably is another rubber & fender washer between the fender & the first nut too. Dollars to a donut this is not the original set-up (rubber washers, fender washers, Nyloc), but rather something I put together during assembly back in '97 & 20k miles ago. "Look good, last long time!"

Hope this helps

jumpjg, thanks for your response. The one I am working on, the horn mounts at the top of of the triangle bracket, at the union of the battery box and the bracket, the bolts for the horn attachment protrude out enough to contact the fender at that point, which leaves about 30mm between fender and the single hole on the bracket.
The battery box is from the 'S' model.
Thanks again.

How are you going to mount the fastback oil tank on the 'S' battery box?

Ron, I am using an aluminum battery and oil tank platform, with the battery area in the front instead of the rear. The oil tank is also aluminum, and based on the "S" model. This enables the use of velocity stacks and a similar but larger capacity, K&N replacement style filter. The battery is a short Varta type that just fits under the filter.
I made the platform fender mount in the same basic location as the stock Fastback mount.

Sounds like the start of a mean cafe racer! So are you planning on using side panels or go with the open look?

Here's the e-start fastback cafe racer I built 10+ years ago. It's currently undergoing a re-do in production racer garb. I'm thinking of selling the Dunstall dual disc setup and going with a CNW style Brembo. Especially after watching the trashed Dunstall dual disc set up go to $1775 on eBay (and not meet the seller's reserve!!)

Ron, that is a great looking machine. We have gone with the open look.
I purchased the QTM mount for the Brembo caliper direct. Now trying to match up the Norton hub to a Duck disk.

QTM sold you the Brembo mount!!! I have tried to purchase one twice and they keep referring me to Matt Rambow at CNW telling me that he is exclusive distributor. Matt won't sell the mount without the whole kit. Do you know who you spoke to at QTM?

I have a disc from a Kawasaki ZXR 900 which is a five hole center and much easier to adapt than the six hole Ducati (Brembo) disc.
