Thought I's start a new thread so we don't hijack the frame ID:

rightstickshift,

If you have or can get some pics of the later 69/70 rear guard mounting, I would appreciate it. My early rear guard is in bad shape, the blue one and it has a lot of bondo on it, the other one is in fairly good shape and if I could put it on my bike with the later mounting, it would be easier to get the later rear guard chromed. I'm not sure what parts I need to get the later guard on, mine mounts between the shock tops. Then I need to get the parts to mount it, which from what I've seen is a plate that attaches to the frame down by the horn, below the battery tray?

I have a friend not too far away, I need to go and see what his mounting is like, it's after mine.

Took some pictures today of the bike. Not the best, but I hope they help. I don't have good ones of the fender mounted, and will have to look closer for any plates for the bottom. IIRc it mounted to where the horn is on the bottom of the battery tray using spacers. But I'll look closer into my parts packages from when I took her down for frame repair. the first 3 are of the bracket that the top 2 fender bolts mount to. The 4th is of the bottom of the battery tray, where it mounts. Last is of the fender itself (on the right)

Thanks, I see how it works now. I don't have that bracket off the web off the rear of the main tube. Mine mounts off the bracket between the shock top bolts. Looks like my guard only uses the center bolt off the horn bracket from the little bracket under the battery tray. I have my bolts turned around because it's easier to mount that way and I'm using the 71 guard for now and don't need the mounts there. Looks like the later 69/70 uses both those bolts. I remember mine installed from the front of battery tray bracket, through the trianuglar horn bracket, a nut, some spacers or washers, through the guard and then another nut on the inside of the guard. Here's a pic of how my setup is.

I'm torn whether to get my old one repaired and use the original parts or try to find that bracket and use the newer guard I have.

edit;
Is that plate that the guard mounts on spaced away from the web? Mine has a lip at the bottom that would not allow it to sit flush on the web. I wonder if anyone could come up with part numbers for the guard mounting plate (stay?) and/or the bracket that my guard mounts on between the shocks? My book lists 061400 stay for the 'S' rear mudguard, otherwise I don't find a number for the Roadster, 69 or 70 and the Fastback and R were probably different but who knows?

edit2:
I found 061400 at Norvil and it's like the one on your bike rss. http://www.norvilmotorcycle.co.uk/061400.htm
Now I wonder if I could find a number on mine?

Nope, that's not it. That's for the fastback. Look at my picture and the bracket between the shock top bolts. That's where my mudguard mounts. Not that I need one, just being anal about part numbers. I've never seen a break out picture of the 69/70 central oil tank mounting either.

061400 definitely looks like the part. On mine it is spaced away from the frame bracing about 1/4" or so. I'll try to get a good measurement of it.
