Is anybody around the world making a good copy (or has origonal stock) of the 68 fast back round tank badge?

Thanks L.A.B. I asume they will be reproductions and i would be keen to get some feed back as to how good a copy they are?, as i have allready purchased one from rgm as i am only missing one but it was considerably different to my other two, Has any body purchased the ones from Walridge?

Thanks L.A.B.
I also note that Walridge list them though i have emailed them twice but i am unable to get a reply from them, do they not like to deal with people from another country.

The demand for items like these badges is pretty low. No one wants to keep much stock. It could be that Mike is trying to check with his supplier to see if he can still get them. Making these is often a sideline or hobby and these guys don't work on a schedule. It is a bad business practice not to reply to your inquiry, but I have never had an issue with Walridge.

At the risk of complicating this thread, another type of badge was used on the 1968 Fastback. I have period literature that shows this, and my 1968 also has the same badge. It is a round plastic badge, and more commonly seen on N15 tanks. You can see a picture here: http://www.domiracer.com/tankbadges.html
Described in text as: 1957-68 Norton round plastic tank badge; silver, black & red. 01-25217

Thanks Stephen my bike is actually early '69 and has the norton villiers type though i only have 2.

I'm no expert, but I currently have an early 1968 fastback that has the glue-on Norton Villiers badges with the part number 06-0499. I have a picture of the day the original owner picked the bike up from the dealer and the badges are the 06-0499 type. Also checked my parts book and it calls for the 06-0499 badges. I'd be interested in knowing what period printed material shows them with the other type as I love the detective work.

I've never actually seen a commando with the N15 style badge other than this promo photo. (this is my first time trying to post a photo)

The original badges off my 68 were too beat up to use. I ended up buying a set from Norvil that were high quality and really close to the orginals. They have an image of them in their catalog if you're familiar with it.

Stephen was that your silver commando mentioned with photo in Old Bike Australasia some issues back?

Interesting, I've never run across that photo before. Seems like a pre-production promo shot.

This is the illustration I was thinking of. And when I look at my early literature, admittedly all the photos show the simple silver stick-on Norton Villiers badge (part number 06-0499), rather than the N15 style. So perhaps mine is not correct after all. The tank has a large recess under the tank badges, and the round N15 badge cover the recess quite nicely. How does the thinner stick-on Norton Villiers badge work here. Does it fit in the recess, span it, conform to it, or what?

And no possum, I doubt my bike was mentioned in Old Bike Australasia. It is located in Victoria, British Columbia.

The bikes on the stand at the 1967 show didn't say "Norton" anywhere. The only "badges" were the infamous green blobs. One visitor to the stand asked why the turn signals were green!

There was such an uproar over the loss of the traditional Norton logo, that I suspect someone at Plumstead got the decal version made. I don't think the early fastbacks would have had indentations for the traditional molded acrylic badge from the older models.

I didn't have much to do with the production Commandos, as we were into the motocross program and the development of the Stormer by the time production of the Commando got under way. I greatly regret not being able to take advantage of the employee purchase plan before I left N-V. A new fastback under that program was about $1000, and Boeing would have shipped it!

There is a recess for the badges on my tank and tail. The 06-0499 badges sit in them, but the fiberglass does not come all the way up to cover the edge of the badge. In other words, the recess is uniformly recessed and the top edge of the badge is a little proud of the fiberglass. My old '68 Fastback was the same.
