Hello all. I'm slowly getiing my Manxman closer to the original spec , and since the HT leads are front and center when viewing the engine, I'd like to replace my very plain ones with something which resembles what would have come on the machine from new. Does anyone have a picture or a lead on something which might help? I have no idea what the originals looked like. Thanks in advance

Put Rolls Royce Merlin H.T. leads in SEARCH and got THIS .

7mm HT Ignition Lead Cable - Gloss YBRF Wire Core Cotton Braided

Looking up old english stuff , the Resto Market is full of it .
String Core was useless .
Better to make up a set of ' race ' wire leads with original fittings & boots .

The Copper wire Core was better for interfereing with T. V. sets . ;)

Go to Green Spark Plug Company - they have the best gear at reasonable prices - https://au.gsparkplug.com/ignition
Cheers

BTW - on my 650 I use the non-gloss cotton braids like Matt showed above

I use to run that yellow copper core cotton braid on my first Joe Hunt Maggie brought 1/2 a roll at a swap meet most vintage car collectors use it, I still have a set of leads made up and some new cable left but the yellow does fade a little over time.
Most vintage car suppliers still get it as it's still made.

Memory not that good nowadays. But I think original was black. Nothing fancy at all, just plain copper core plastic ones. Only common colors in the sixties was black, grey and red. Braided came out of fashion in the forties when plastic became cheaper and usually more reliable. You only touched old ones once.

Yes, braid on modern plug leads is not a good idea. It holds moisture against the outside of the plastic insulation
