Spoke to Boyer about using resistor plugs

using resistor-equipped spark plugs should be just as effective as resistor plug caps. A value of 5000 ohms would be sufficient

And that was their answer.

I got the same answer from Sparx (I have one of their three-phase alternators as well as a Boyer) and have run resistor plugs (NKG Iridium fine-wires, like them a lot) and non-resistor wires with no apparent problems yet.

I'm running Taylor 8mm resisted wires on my bike and they give no issues yet. I bought the NGK caps but was unable to get my hands on the solid copper wire to make the wires.

Apparently my bike has been running 8mm resistor wires for years, seemingly with no ill effects.

You can run resistor wire, caps or plugs but not more than a total of 5K ohms. For some unknown reason, I installed resistor wire AND resistor caps on my Matchless G12 with Boyer ignition, high output alternator and solid state regulator and it prevented my battery from charging. Somehow the increased resistance fooled the voltage regulator and prevented charging. Once I switched out the wires for solid copper ones, all was well. So make sure you install just one of the above and remember that more is definitely not merrier!!

A well-sorted system should be able to overcome excess resistance, but if things are marginal it may make the difference between starting/running/charging and not. Also I've been told it will impair your MPG, although I don't know for sure.

Intuitively, excess resistance doesn't seem like a good thing, though. "Goldilocks"-level resistance is the goal.
