Well, I've been out and done the first 250 kms on my bike and I must say I'm a little disappointed. I've heard the 961 can be cantankerous around town but I've been out on the highway and found she runs quite rough at the recommended 3,500 rpm running in limit. The engine is sweet at idle and under acceleration but she surges and jerks when I level out anywhere between 3000 and 4000 rpm.

Whilst my bike is 'new' it has been sitting indoors for some 12 to 18 months with only periodic starting. I'm wondering if the injectors might have some gunk in them??

Has anyone else experienced this?

Is your 961 stock, with the original exhaust system?
Sounds like lean running.

Very similar issue with the initial running in period on my 2016 MKII. Not pleasant riding below 3000 rpm, but smoothed out over 3000 rpm. Fueling set far too lean, combined with restrictive standard silencers. I fitted the de-cat x-pipe and short open silencers, ecu re-map at 500 miles, which was a great improvement. New cam speed sensor also fitted at 1200 miles, and it's much smoother throughout the rev range, and a pleasure to ride.....

Hi Patch, I think you might be on the money. I've ordered the standard upgrades - plugs, coil, cam sensor and leads. We'll see how that goes until I can fit a de-cat pipe. The problem is, there is no dealer within thousands of kilometres so I'm unsure how I will get a re-map done. Also, further to my original post, the bike seems to have a misfire right from start up now. It splutters a bit and is slow to get running then, when it is, the misfire is across the rev range.

Try cam sensor.
I've replaced the cam sensor, plugs and coil but the engine still has a misfire. It seems to be from the left cylinder. I've ordered new One07 leads but CWN were out of stock. I'm really hoping replacing the leads fixes the misfire.

the stock plug wires have caused so many people problems. Sorry, I often forget mentioning it because Ive been on this forum so long I take for granted everyone knows to change the leads as soon as they get the bike. Whereas the sensors are more of a try it and let us know if you notice its better.

Let us know if the plug wires fix this for you.

Might be a long shot but I had a problem with the coating inside the injector rail flaking off and blocking an injector. It wasn't an intermittent issue though, it stopped one cylinder from firing completely. Reminded me of my old ES2 :).

Yes agree entirely, I ran bike in pretty quick & like u say, not much going on below 3000rpm with standard exhaust set up, & below 30mph a bit of a task , bit like a 2 stroke with the wrong jets in at low rev,s ,but once run in & the short stubby Motad s & decat pipe it was great , I had lamba sensors fail b4 Xmas causing very rich running & high fuel consumption, but once fixed at factory with service all good .
