If you find yourself heading through Utah Labor Day weekend, you may want to witness one of the most unique racing weeks on the planet....seriously...this can only happen in Utah! The 9th Annual Bonneville Vintage GP at Miller Motorsports Park...a gem of a racetrack (actually two-East and West Tracks with the ability to combine them) with some of the best GP and Day garages around. Start the week at the Bonneville Salt Flats for the Bonneville Speed Trials (formally BUB Motorcycle Speed Trials) http://www.bonnevillespeedtrials.com located 90 miles east of Miller on posted 80 mph I-80
that starts the weekend before and ends Thursday. Our own Ken Canaga will be there attempting a record on his nitrous powered Norton along with famous go fast manufacturer of Norton go fast goodies-Steve Maney. They will be at Miller during the BVGP. On Friday the action continues with more of a twist at Miller Motorsports Park through the weekend. If your flying in...Salt Lake International Airport is only twenty minutes from the track.
Here is a sampling of what will be going on and some major updates to the website http://www.bonnevillevintagegp.com will be ongoing over the next week:
RV camping available at the track. Hot showers and electrical hook ups available. If your thinking about motorcycle camping, get in touch with me and I'll give you the inner scoop (identify yourself as an Access Norton member)
Gate fee to Miller Motorsports Park (10.00 day or $15.00 for three day pass) which includes unlimited viewing of AHRMA Vintage and Sidecar Roadracing at any of the grandstands or view from the top of the GP garages, Motorcycle Classics Magazine Classic Bike Show (Vincent is the featured marque this year) on Saturday, swap meet, vendors, sell your bike corral, access to the the GP Garage and Day Garages to photograph race bikes and talk to the racers (always ask permission first as sometimes if they have a broken motorcycle before a race, things can get pretty intense) otherwise you will find AHRMA racers extremely friendly and knowledgeable about vintage (and modern) bikes. The ever popular LeMans start CB-160 races (we’ve had as many as 40 motorcycles in this group) is back and the crazy action from the Sidecars West Modern and Vintage sidecars with speeds capable of 170 mph with the passenger sometimes scraping their helmet on the ground and the sidecars getting up on two wheels like a catamaran. New this year will be the eMotoRacing 8th Round of racing electric superbike motorcycles piloted by well known Superbike Racers: http://emotoracing.com/ While ARHMA has classes racing everything from hand shift Indians and Harleys from the 1930’s to vintage Norton's, Triumphs, BSA’s etc. and offbeat Italian motorcycles like Parilla and Agusta MV’s to the Japanese bikes we all grew up with along with modern race bikes like Ducati’s and Triumphs. http://www.ahrma.org AHRMA’s festivities' focus on the technical East Track at Miller and the action continues with the Utah SBA Master of the Mountains Mountains Race Series on the high speed West Track: http://www.utahsba.com/racing We will also offer sidecar rides around the track (donation and riding gear required-some riding gear may be available) and parade laps on your own motorcycle around the track during lunch (again Helmet and riding gear required). This will be to directly benefit the new Hope Lodge that the American Cancer Society is building on 3rd East and 1st South offering cancer patients traveling from out of town free lodging (some for more than a month) during the course of their treatment or recovery after surgery) $10.00 donation: http://www.hopelodgeutah.org/ AHRMA will again offer it’s race school on Friday that allows you track time on Friday plus classroom and mock race at end of day. If you pass the school, you can race on Saturday and Sunday: http://www.ahrma.org/ahrma_pdfs/Z-2014/ ... school.pdf
