I think that 1973 was the only year with two series. Series One has the 71-72 megaphone silencers. Series Two seems to have Torpedoes. This week I installed Torpedoes interested to see how much quieter they are from repro Megaphones.
Seems to me that all repro later model brit bikes are straight through absorption type not baffled as original. Also interested in seeing if there was any noticeable performance drop.
100 mile road test today says they are slightly quieter in town, a bit less of a rasp. At full chat they are more subdued but
and perhaps a bit less umph up at high rpm. Rather surprised at how well they work actually. They are a bit heavier too.

What actually are those ‘torpedo’ silencers, do you know?

I thought you were referring to the later stock ones, often referred to as ‘cigar’ silencers.

But the ones you have are something altogether different …

I once drew a "chart" of the different mufflers, and the various monikers attached to them, I'll have to search it up...

"Sausage on a Stick" (Burgess) being my favorites...

Torpedoes are 1973 only. They went on the twins too. I have been told that the handful of 1974
Daytonas that were made in the few days just before the big strike got them as well.
71-3723 part number. Quick look and they are similar to peashooters but have not conical ends
but curved ones. Looks to me that the inside of this extension is a perforated tube probably with some
kind of packing surrounding it. Next year cigars replaced them, probably they are quieter.
Note too that the exhaust pipe is smaller at the silencer join than the previous. There is an extension of
the pipe that continues on into the silencer. I think Norman Hyde said that Hele found it increased low
end torque by 3 pounds. As far as I know the later T150vs got cigars.
Not to beat it to death but 73 Series 1 got the 71-72 meggas, seamed petrol tank, drum brake but with the five speed. I would not be surprised if some got the torpedoes and the later tank etc. How much was
just what was on the shelf as the bikes came down the line.
