Filled everything with fluids except oil tank. So far just spindle end caps leaking.

I sold the Buell Blast motor, and have a possible sale of the XS 360 tomorrow.

If that happens I might buy a 2000 Ducati 748 I found in my price range. I have always liked them, and it is underpriced. Possibly a bike to buy, ride a little and flip.

RGM Motors does it again. I ordered my parts Wednesday afternoon and they showed up today at 11:30!!! I now have everything except the valve seat cutters. I won them yesterday and should have them this week. I already have 2 guides changed and should have the other 2 done soon. Then a quick seat cutting when the tools arrive and then on to final assembly. I should have it fired by the weekend and ready for some shakedown. I am super excited. The icing on the cake would be if I can swing the Ducati deal. We'll see.

Ducati deal was a scam. somone took the photos from a real listing marked a lower price and made a fake story.

Anyway. Combat is full of fluids, and so far no leaks. I know I put fluids in there!! .

guides are in, just waiting on seat cutters.

Hi There

I can see where the spring goes now but unfortunatly my cartridge oil filter is in the way, how do the models with this filter route the spring?

I have the filter and everything clears fine. The hook end of the spring has a hole in the cradle on the left side near the stand pivot bolt.

Fuel line and valve seat cutters arrived. Valve seats done, and head is re assembled. I have the head installed on the bike, just need to torque it down and finish assembly. It's close.

Ugh... I got the head installed and valves adjusted. Worked the engine over by hand with the kick starter and heard some weird pinging sound.

I opted for the over sized intake valves. Apparently with a SS cam that causes the intakes and exhausts to lightly touch. So off with it's head.

Out with the intake valves and a little creative home machining.

Now no touchy. Head is back on and checks good. On to more reassembly tomorrow.

Yes, that is the very set I used. I bought it on ebay and when done, sold it on ebay for what I paid with shipping to the next needy sole. Kinda like a tool loan. Maybe you have that same set/

Ya know, many say the crank is the heart of the Norton and any motor. But nothing has such a profound effect as a well built and sorted head. This is where the snorton comes to a Norton.

As with the rest of your work, the head look great.

Seems like a lot of bikes coming together lately. Can't wait till your start up video comes online.

If the rocker spindles are not too hard to remove this is you best opportunity to grind off the ends of the rockers to once and for all time eliminate the push rod hang up fitting hassle. Not that big a deal on the bench with head upside down but once right side up inside frame its a pain in the neck to solve the puzzle and force.

Brent,
What kind of creative machining did you do to eliminate the clearance problem that you had ? Bike looks great.
YING

I chucked the valves in a hand drill and reduced the diameter a bit with a mill file. Worked a treat.I didn't have to remove too much to get the needed clearance.
I could have waited until I could get over to the shop, but I am in a time crunch right now. And using the lathe wouldn't have netted any different of a result.

Just curious: any worry that the valve (s) wont grow when fully
heated and get reacquainted?

For comparison here is a 750 head with standard 1.5" intake valves.

Note the difference in distance between the intake and exhaust valve seats on the standard and hot rod!

I have close to that now.

I just finished putting it all together. added gas, stopped a few leaks and rolled it out into the driveway.

After a quick tickle and a few prods of the kick starter, it came to life, for a few seconds. No noises to speak of.

The timing and carbs need adjusting. And my throttle cables are wrong.

Man it's hot out there with all the kicking. mid 80's and 50% humidity and full sun.

Out to go work some more.
