1971 Roadster - Long Slow Play

As mentioned, the gear cluster appears to be in good shape. Thankful the gear box was stored with oil still in it.

There is some slight wear on 3rd pair gears and I may replace for piece of mind.

Next up is to check the lay and main shafts with V blocks and a dial indicator.

It’s been a bit of time since I had any progress on the Norton. Life and a new job got in the way.

Have had some shop time recently and decided to clean up and reassemble the crank.

It was a lot of elbow grease and WD40, but the results were worth it.

Picked up this little box end wrench in a misc. parts stash a while back. It was almost like offset was made to tighten up the nuts.

Looks like your about ready to weld the gussets on your swinging arm
Just incase you are not a welder it's best to fettle those gussets to fit as good as you can before welding
Also it'd be worth pre stressing a little at the axle slots
Maybe 5mm outward or so , because all that heat is bound to pull in a little

Thanks baz, that is a good tip. I was mocking up the swing arm for the gussets.

I am not the greatest welder. The plan was to build a jig with some scrap angle for swing arm and to run some threaded rod with large washers and nuts to hold everything down.
