Gidday. I have a 66 Atlas. I need to know what is the correct speedo , tacho combination, (it currently has a chronometric speedo and a wierd tacho) . Also the correct warning light for the headlight shell.

Does someone have a photo of a 66 instrument, warning lights and switchgear set up please?

Cheers Hillbone

According to the Smiths 1966 catalogue, the Atlas speedo for that year was SSM 3001/00A (MPH) or SSM3001/01A (Km/h), and the optional tacho was RSM 3003/00A.
Speedo drive gearbox: BG5330/257.

Sounds like a real good lead. Do you know where I could source pictures etc? Thanks for the reply mate. Cheers

there are some very good pictures in Roy Bacons Norton Twin Restoration book.

Hey LAB, while your at it, the 1962 650SS has a Smith's speedo in the head light, and I have a Smith's tachometer for the right fork but what can go on the left?
Sorry to highjack

I don't think anything would normally be fitted on the left side of a '62 SS - as far as I know. As for what can go there, what were you thinking of fitting?

That's pretty much my set up right there, I don't mind running just the tachometer on the right, I was just wondering if there is anything else that could go on the left?

The same size as the tacho? All the other Smith's gauges other than speedo and tacho seem to smaller?

Yes, those gauges are usually smaller. Does it matter that much, although fitting one would probably require a custom mounting bracket?

No it doesn't matter, I dont mind it with just the tacho like in the picture anyway, just wasn't sure if it was meant to be like that or not, thanks for that.......back to the 66.....

Thanks for the help LAB, I am trying to restore this correctly and every time I am tempted to take a short cut or a make do, I just walk away for a while.
I am hard pressed to find many if any differences between a 66 or a 67 Atlas other than the monoblock vs the concentric amals. If you can think of any, please let me know of them.
Thanks again

Original gauges for the 1966 Atlas would have been the Smiths "grey face" Speedometer and Tachometer. Both mounted on the standard Norton steel gauge bracket. 1967 would have the same.
The biggest difference between the 1966 Atlas and the 1967 Atlas would have been the ignition. 66 had the Lucas K2F magneto and the 67 got the distributor / coil ignition.
