Hi.
I have updated with:
-six start oil pump worm gear;
-removing the rockers oil feed hose from the return side of the oil tank to the timing cover pressure feed.
Now that the bike is ready for the first start i have a doubt!.
I have fitted the rockers oil feed hose to the timing cover, like my 1967 P11, Atlas and N15.
But maybe i should do change the 1964 timing cover with a later one?.
To my eyes the timing covers seemed the same.
Thanks, as always, for helping me.
Ciao
Piero

The timing cover should not matter.

You MUST upgrade the rocker spindles to the high pressure type. IIRC, the flats on the high pressure spindles should face outwards.

Hi Slick.
I understand now that i had to updated the rocker spindle from scrolled to plain.
I have not do this.
Is this a problem?
Thank you.
Piero

With the high pressure oil source at the timing cover, and LOW pressure rocker spindles, you will over oil the rockers and have oil leaks into the valve guides.

And my experience is that you will also have to change the inlet guides to Commando ones with valve seals.

I have the scrolled rockers spindles but they have the hole like the plain one.
Are they not good the same?

I agree with Bernhard. You may gain some advantage by turning the flats to the outside of center.

If you do not go with what has been proven to work, you should check rocker oiling to see if oil is enough but not too much. Capice?

Capisci? Yes i have “capito”.

The scrolled spindle has also the hole.
What is the difference with the later flat?

The scrolled spindle, with the flats turned inward (to the center of the head), is designed to deliver sufficient oil with low pressure. The later spindle is designed to limit the flow of oil with high pressure.

I think you should use caution if you use low pressure spindles with high pressure feed from the timing cover.

Hi.
So i must update with the commando spindles.
Could be a wrong choise to return the feed to return oil tank?.
Other question, please:
-i have on the six start crankshaft worm gear but how i can recognize that the OIL PUMP WORM GEAR is FOR six START (they look all the same)?.
Thanks for your sugests.

Yes, but i would to say about the oil pump worm gear not the crsnckshsft one .

How to distinguish the 3- and 6-start oil pump worm gear is quite easy. 3-start gear has teeth angled at 15 degrees approx. to the shaft. whereis 6-start gear has teeth angled at 30 degrees approx. to the shaft. Another alternative is for you to compare your worm gear to the one displayed at AN's site.

Cheers,
Knut

Thank you All.
Can i think that if the pump turns joined with a six start cranckshaft worm gear it is a six start too?

Don't quite understand this, but just to make it clear 6 start work and gear will not mix with 3 start one. How about sending a pic of your gears it would be easy to tell the difference for some of us old Norton grease monkeys ( no offence)
