It never occurred to me before but after noticing it on some photos of other bikes, it seems my Model 50 does not have any tank strap rubber backing part fitted.

The original parts book I have does not have an exploded parts diagram, but does list a rubber backing part.

Did the tank strap always have this rubber backing part fitted?

Thanks

So, I went down into our apartment's underground garage to measure the width of the tank strap and I can just see, underneath the metal strap, an extremely thin layer of rubber/foam which, whilst it's maybe a little more elegant than the regular protective rubber, it probably doesn't offer the same level of protection as the original part but at least there is something protecting the paint..

A pic from my ES2, as far as i know this is how they came - the strap fits into the rubber.
There is also a spring tensioner at the front of the seat/back of the strap - just saying as mine had a rigid fixing when i bought it. Not so kind on the tank in that case.

I purchased the rubber for my 58 Domi 88 from RGM. Had the original strap and rubber. The one I got was wider than what I have on my bike. Need to get one of those SS straps to go along with the rubber. Mine has a rigid mount at the front and a draw bolt at the back.
