I am looking for a toolkit for my new-2-me 56 Dommie 99. Nothing in the classified or eBay. Is there a better place for this kind of quest ? Is anyone reproducing them?

I have not heard of anyone producing replica kits..... just say'n ... maybe someone does. There are newly made tool pouches available on eBay, but these are nothing like the pouch that came with my Atlas .... actually, the newly made ones are a lot nicer, but not a replica of the original. As I recall, the original pouch fell apart rather quickly, and I fashioned up a replacement from vinyl upholstery material.

The original kit from my 63 Atlas contained 2 tire spoons, a pair of pliers, wire-formed screw driver, one or two? tube formed wrenches fitting the spark plugs and axle (spindle) nuts, and a rod to pass thru those tube wrenches.

If it would help, I can post a pic of the kit contents tomorrow.

Made up toolkit sets appear on fleabay now and then.
Someone in the UK even specialises in them, but him having one for a specific year and model may be a little hopeful.

As slick says, you can put together a basic toolkit using whitworth/BS type spanners, a screwdriver and greasegun and tire irons, plug spanner, wheel wrench, feeler gauges etc. It soon gets big and bulky if you plan for everything etc. Some folks say to leave it in the workshop, and just carry a credit card (!).

More than a few folks have commented too that tools soon wear through those canvas type toolrolls, unless something fairly tough is wrapped around the tools. You also need to make sure the toolkit can't jump out of its carrying space and disappear off the side of the road. Although the dommie with its underseat tool tray may be immune from this. I bought a cheapy toolkit in a roll for an Enfield, and it came with whitworth spanners and the basics, and was quite inexpensive. Quality was usable, but you won't win a concours display with them.
Hopethishelps.

Here is my "63 Atlas (actually a '62 build) tool kit. For reference, the grid lines on the table are 1 inch.

The roll up pouch is not original. I fabricated something similar to the original after it fell apart.

The spanner sizes are Whitworth unless noted:

Open:
1/4 x 3/16 branded "Shelley"
1/8 x 0.206 in ?

Tube formed:
9/16 AF x 0.5 in round hole
3/8 x 7/16
7/16 x 1/2

The pliers are branded "Shelley". The screwdriver/feeler gauge is Lucas and the feeler thickness is 0.015 in. The "C" spanner is branded "Girling"

FWIW, I have a tool kit which I believe came from my brother's '65 Atlas. He has passed, so I am not sure of the provenance. Unless my brother lost many of the tools (that would NOT have been like him to do), there were far fewer tools in 1965, and of inferior quality.

Neato pic.

There would have been one or 2 more spanners ?
The parts list often has a page of such tool stuff listed, was there anything for the year(s) in question.

BTW, Shelley was associated with the company that was a major shareholder in Nortons,
or some such tie-up. (?)(Pre AMC) R.T. Shelley is the name that comes to mind, without checking.
Not sure I have ever seen a good account of how this worked.

Hi
When I brought my 1958 99 Dommie (1969) it still had the original tool kit and I still have some of the tools left. In addition to the photo above it had two bigger flat one ended spanners, one with two holes in the handle, plus also there was a small spanner for holding the square head on the rocker adjuster while you nip it up, still got them somewhere as they keep turning up every now and then.

Thanks for the responses. It would be great to find a picture of what the toolkit looked like from the factory. I can put together something functional, but I was hoping to find or build something more original. I will throw a few whitworth spanners in a pouch and keep an eye on eBay.

Meanwhile, I will start a toolkit thread in the hopes that we can build a library.......
