I am intrigued if it really does have the original finish.

1948 Inter with origianl paint?

While the paint scheme is reasonably like the original, the Norton decal was never gold like that from the factory. And the lack of chips, scratches and general wear would suggest the finish has been renewed somewhere, probably quite recently. Still a nice bike though. And the price as such is not out of line, regardless ...

They are two different models, although in that era the differences are mostly more finning and magnesium.
We could suggest the Manx word was thrown in to attract more viewings...

If you want an early Inter you probably can't be too picky. To my mind the bike you are looking at is too modern. I don't believe you would ever find a garden gate girder fork model with the correct racing tanks exhaust and carb etc, which you could buy. If you bought this one, you'd have a starting point, - you'd need to be prepared to work. The up-side is that a lot of people cannot see the intrinsic value in the bike. Perhaps you should do some research on the various models pre-1948 ? It is not simply a matter of cobbling something together.

That's a pretty rare combination to be chasing, all those bits were listed as optional extras. Why can't it be 'cobbled together' though - that's how the factory did it ??

This has not much to do with the subject bike here though...

do not any knowledge of old Norton's, but if that is new paint they have done a great job of adding fake wear and patina.

It also looks like this is an experienced dealer of older motorcycles that has sold quite a few and has a 100% positive feed back.

It is still e bay but those are good signs

When I look at that, I can see barely a mark or scratch or dent on it.
If thats a genuine original bike, its been wrapped in oiled cotton wool all its life (?).
Or been, relatively recently, completely restored - and barely used since.
The fact he can show the inside of the cylinder head....

When you see a pic of the usual barn find bike, its the rust and paint and chrome deterioration that really stands out.
Will find a suitable pic...

BTW, the rim centres should be painted black, not silver, so the wheels have been apart somewhere, recently.
And the gold decal on the tank is nothing like original either, they only appeared a few years back.
Still a lovely bike though...

It may be splitting hairs, but there is a difference between 'original paint' and 'original type paint scheme'.
This one is the latter...

Yer average 'barn find' ??

1948 Inter with origianl paint?

Rust, scratches, dents, flat tyres, rusty chrome, bits missing, bodgy parts,
wires hanging out.....

actually the seller has stated that their has been some restoration/work re board ,alt generator re built and mods to license plate

no claim that it is a survivor or a barn find, Looking at your photo the muffler also looks suspect, I would think maybe it is out of a collection that has been well cared for. Maybe Jay lenno

not arguing but curious , like I said I know nothing about old Norton's.

Its certainly been well cared for.
And there are a lot of not-quite standard touches, when you add them all up.
(Head has been freshly blasted clean too)
Still a lovely bike. And the seller certainly knows them well.

That barn find is a different year, and the brooklands type muffler is a (common) accessory.
Like many of the changes you see on hard ridden/well used bikes, which get parked and then neglected.
Seat too has been altered to the new fangled dual seat - in a fashion...
