Hi Guys:
I just rebuilt a 71 fastback.I remember back in the 70's we used 12 volt car coils instead of the stock ones. They gave better spark, but were larger.I am using flint and steel ignition and remember there were small marine coils available someone said which fit the stock brackets. Does this ring a bell with anyone. I have 12 volt german repacements from walridge which are ok but I would like a set with better spark.

Have you removed the ballast resistor? As the '71 and all subsequent models had a ballast resistor and two 6V coils.

Tri-Spark make high power 6V/12V coils to fit the stock brackets, http://www.trispark.com.au/home/products/

Alternatively, fit a single 12V dual coil.

I used a new 70 wiring harness so I could put an amp guage in and get rid of all the 71 clutter . I am not running newer switchgear. No ballast resister in the circuit.

They make some very good aftermarket coils for hopped up Harleys. I bought one 20-25 years ago for my Norton (you only need one) and it still has a one kick spark.

I will check into that.I bought one years ago for a boyer and I recall at the time they asked me the resistance because of the boyer.I just assumed they only worked on electronic ignitions.
