Would a Chinese Norton be that bad ?

Can't change the names Triumph, Norton or the others. Someone will eventually come along able to make full use of 'Norton'

The altered names are sideshows.

My 961's "British" mirror snapped off at the first sight of a spanner - assumed a UK brand as it had a Western name on the back - wrong, made in Vietnam. Replaced with bar end mirrors of quality - made by Oberon - exactly what should have been fitted in the first place! Oh, by the way, Norton were not the least bit interested when I bought it to their attention at the NEC. Lovely bike but a very strange mix of quality parts alongside crap.
Come see us at “ rykas cafe “ on Sunday April 5th , & we can all have a moan together, we usually do , praise the bikes looks & good things that we’ve experienced & then have a moan bout the bad school boy errors we’ve also experienced ( which were all avoidable)
Only down the road for you

I’m gonna say this. for the most part, my Norton’s have been trouble free minus one poorly installed cam cover gasket resulting in a loss of oil pressure. And the neutral light flicker. Both were very easily fixed by myself.

I’m proud to own my Norton’s and even more so that they are “British” made. If I knew they were made in China or India I would of never bought them.

I will say this : IF Jinlang or another Chinese or any other company can make good quality parts for the 961 Norton I will buy them . I still have my bike , and I still enjoy owning / riding it . What choice do you have ? Keep and hope or Sell ? It reminds me of Motus Motorcycles that a year or two ago was shutdown by the investors behind it. Of course there was no scandal involved , just not selling enough bikes to keep the investors willing to keep it operational . Norton (SG most likely) was their own worst enemy , Right until the end they had orders coming in ! I will get that HD Streetfighter/Bronx next if it is a good one . I like the belt drive that I know already !

Hi how did you fix the flashing neutral light mine drives me nuts

The patch cord +12V through a resistor to the Fuel WL relay . There is a thread on it. I will see what I can find. Voodoo may have the original TSB on it though .
Go Here :
https://www.accessnorton.com/NortonCommando/low-fuel-light-with-full-tank.27193/

You can make this easily with a resistor and hook up wire and connectors.
Advise to use a 10K OHM resistor or even 50 K OHM first . The way Norton had you hooking up it was on the 12V of the battery causing a constant small current draw . Try this first and if it works then look to find a switched source of 12V that comes on only after the key is turned on...

Not exclusive to Norton. I bought my Triumph because I believe it to be UK made (F2 sticker on the headstock) and, although I appreciate not a premium brand like Norton, the wheel rims and spokes rusted at the first sight of rain. On the rims is stamped "Union Cycle" - a Thai company! A good bike let down by crap.

Remember when Japanese cars started to appear around 1960? Horrible crap.
Ten years later, Japanese motorcycles made the British motorcycle industry obsolete.
Now we see the same evolution in China.
Regarding quality, you can get different quality depending on the price you pay.
As usual, buy cheap, get crap.
They didn’t call them Nissan shite boxes for nothing taxi drivers favourites

Erm... where did the cylinders barrels for the 961 come from ?
Made in England ?
The taiwanese suppliers have learned to make proper stuff, and the continental chinese are on a very steep learning curve.
The thing that makes me puke is not the quality of the products, its the concentration-camp like working conditions in chinese factories.
