After many stripdown and rebuilds of the primary drive I'd always wondered why , after the tab washers were on , three of the studs had only a couple of threads left to catch the nut on. As the threads were getting worn looking I ordered 4 new from rgm. On removal of the old it turned out 3 were 82mm and one at 90mm. (3.30in and 3.55in). All 4 new were of the longer one. Anyone else seen this and know why ? Puzzled, Roy.

Photo of old ones, Hmmm ?

I've never noticed this on my Mk3.
Just a long shot. It looks like the studs have got a short thread on one end and a long thread on the other. If the long thread was screwed fully into the cases wouldn't that leave less of the stud sticking out?

I see that the OEM stud is listed as 3.575"

OEM NORTON OUTRIGGER PLATE STUD 5/16''X3.575 PART# 06-4688

guessing the shorter ones are for a diffferent application - was looking through 5/16" studs, didn't find a 3.3" length...
