Having this new forum would allow Les and I to quickly relocate off subject topics as we often go that way. If I decide to setup this forum all the usual policies will be in place, respectfulness etc. Still thinking about it.. Seems like the vote is all for it.

Does this mean we'll get Phil Yates back?
He'd close the pub down.

Noticed Phil hasn't been posting lately. Did he get the "Red Headed Step-Child" treatment from the Forum?

OlChris makes good points above....if it took most of the "pollution" off the Classic Commando" category, it would be worth having. However, the Forum membership has thus far been unable to police itself, and seems to post any non-Cdo specific topic in that place. Moreover, there is a "General Discussion" category that serves the save purpose, but few use it. Would changing the name "General Discussion" to "In the Pub" do anything?

Slick

Not quite correct Slick.... They are both Motorcycle related "general discussion" as i read it... If i wanted to share my new recipie discoveries neither of those "General Discussion" categories is an appropriatey titled..
Maybe thats why there rarely used, cos they are only marginally different that main Commando M/C forums.... And still not the correct place for BSnC ... (Bullshite and Chatter)

Why not take the BS and chatter to facebook and leave this forum as it was?

Well yes, but then reform the board to be "tech section" and "pub section". Slightly off topic can be interesting but it easily goes too far.

Quote of the year!!!

In the Pub

Sounds like a great idea. As operator of a very fine pub, I can't help but to attach myself to so many of the patrons. They are very hard working people with a strong voice, and the occasional gripe. They love to be surrounded by friends, family and the finest crafted beer. To be clear, this is not a bar where there are lecherous conventioneers who are smashed out of there heads. In 15 years of business, and 3 locations, there has only been 1 fight in the parking lot. This forum can easily adopt that atmoshphere. When times are good, people will always visit the pub. When times are not so good, people will always visit the pub. Keep it clean and respectful, and it's another way to evolve an already great forum. Access should be granted by special privilege. My .02

+1 On the pub. The idea reminds me of another forum I used to visit, they had something similar. You could talk about anything. You could take part, or not, was totally up to you.

There was only one rule. No personal abuse. If you resorted to name calling, not only did you lose the argument, you were also barred from the forum.

I had some of the finest philosophical discussions in that place. Boy did they sharpen your wits!

Where do you live JCD?

Only one car park fight in 15 years... you'd lose your license to trade with such a poor show if you were in the UK !!

That's why pubs have car parks...

Count me out on the pub. Sounds like gentrification and exclusivicity. There should be no accessnorton denied to some forums based on varying opinion. The really bad can be excluded from the entire site.

Wikipedia's partial description of Gentrification is as follows; "...can often spur economic development, attract business, and lower crime rates." 'Doesn't sound too bad to me...
Keep in mind that this was one person's opinion (JCD) of how it should be run. Nothing says that's how it's going to be. Rather than turn your back on it, stand up for your beliefs. Of course, it's also wise to recognize what's worth fighting for, and what deserves to be walked away from.

How's that for barroom banter?

And to expand on wiki, to the exclusion of those deemed not worthy economically or socially. That's how I read this. Doesn't sound so good now.

It is our choice to be here on this forum. It is also our choice to pay the money to become VIP members, or not to become VIP members on this site. (Sorry, I don't feel excluded.) Further, it is our choice to be heard on any forum, or to be a fly on the wall. If the choice is made to let the Pub idea go by the way side, so be it. This site functions very well without it. What I don't think will happen if the Pub is created, is any loss of exclusivity, or inclusion. The same good folks here will still give the same sound advice and encouragement to the newbies, and to the weather-worn riders of these leaky old machines. My idea is that the Pub's intention is a sort of off-topic room where, perhaps more heated debates about things can be discussed with more latitude. Just as one can choose to enter a thread about what oil is the best for your Norton, one can choose to enter the Pub and meander around. If there is a place for this Pub, as the voting suggests, it should be created.

****NOTE**** No Wiki references were harmed in the making of this reply.

I Agree with your post ......... It never ceases to amaze me how some, seem to be so narrow minded and to be unable to "Live and let live".. Clearly this thread has indicates just that.. Its not the end of the world if somebody want to talk about BBQ recipies on a M/C forum albeit in "The Pub".. Exclusivity or wtf wiki reckons has SFA to do with "The Pub".. Whether your a VIP or a colonial commoner like me, your plug is easily removed by Admin if your a tosser...

This and the comments through this thread is exactly what "i dont want the Non member surfer to see".. How else can it be said so it is clear and can be understood. Unless your a registered member some parts of this AccessNorton web page are hidden from people who cant be bothered to join..

Other Forums i have been on have "restricted" access unless your a member. eg you cant comment, on discussion points and you cant view some parts of the site.... I starting to think that this is the ONLY forum that some members have ever joined and believe it cant get better... Im not saying anymore here. I'll wait till "the pub" opens....
