Donington 961 - Birmingham 961: What are those re-engineered components?

Wouldn’t mind that JPS liveried beauty in my garage; this is not too shabby either though! A little more reliable I suspect!

Much prefer this exhaust than the cans - less compliant though I’m sure.

I do prefer the manx silver paint scheme to the chrome....but the new look exhaust for me looks bloody awful. The megaphone on the SS is closer to the TT bikes.

Me too, at the NEC, was quite the looker …

Same year they had the Atlas’s… and Superlight… and the supercharged Superlight on display.

Oh how they teased us !!
I could have been up for an Atlas, have you seen the size of some of these adventure bikes now!! In the geordie language you would need a lowping stone to mount one.

The other option is this carbon beauty - the cans do look awful - these fire breathing side exhaust instead of the cans for me. No idea how many Norton is selling.

This is one sweet looking motorcycle.

I’m guessing this thread is shot as one used to record engineering changes to the 961.

Someone with a better idea for format/presentation for that content might want to take it up.

How are we going to compare parts and what changes were made, and what does and doesn’t fit if we can’t get those new spares?
Good luck.
Why don’t you submit a parts request for the spare carbon parts you are after V2D3, for your Commando, using the online form?

Gojuu has received all of those carbon parts since the parts department opened earlier this year.

As far as I'm aware, Krazy Horse bought all the obsolete stock....so they'd be worth trying for Domi parts.

I’ve tried more than you know, I’m done with the abuse. It’s your turn.
If you and Tony are successful, I’ll try then.

Nice.
Do you know whether or not SG had to pay a royalty to use the JPS logo?
The owner put the jps decal on.
He actually had the JPS decal before he received the bike. Dead nice guy, loves his V4SS to bits....and quite rightly so. They're a lovely looking bike, ride well and now have a back story that has more twists and turns that the DeLorean's did.

Revised gear change linkage rod. Need to order (or purchase) male rose joints to complete the upgrade.

After note: Part number comes with male rose joints.
You know what they say about assumptions!

I’d assumed, given the fact that another member had received the gear linkage complete with rose joints (for the part number shown), that I would receive the same configuration. I did’nt. Rod, no rose joints:rolleyes:. No matter, apparently those items were not stainless. I’ll pick quality stainless items up locally.

Configuration changes are as detailed previously. 6mm threaded sections, prone to failure, replaced by 6 mm tapped hole (30mm depth). 10mm rod also has slightly more acute bend to clear the primary case and has longer reach (approx 15mm).

Three weeks from ordering to receipt. Not quick but not bad either. I’ve waited longer for KTM spares.

Don’t think this thread works best for recording part/part number detail for re-engineered components. Maybe a definitive list of some sort, possibly like the alternative parts list. Held in the resources space or as a stickie thread. Better ideas welcome.

or more turns than the TT course.

It took Norton many weeks (2 months) to get this order in . There were several website issues and waitng for assembly etc.

Tony,
I'll be waiting to see how long it takes them to turn your order around.
Hopefully a good sign.

Turnaround looks like being pretty slow for some items/assemblies. As discussed, reckon we‘re likely to be lowest priority - especially if we are located overseas and they are busy building bikes.

They’re moving again though which is promising - when have things ever been easy with the Donington 961? Part of its charm right!!

Useful news from Susan (FB). Modified foot pegs to remove the dreaded peg hang up - might save a few car park incidents! Could be a simple peg/or part retrofit once we know the change.

Anybody had sight of the footpeg solution on the Solihull bikes - at the NEC or elsewhere? Would be good to find out if we need new pegs or some other component(s).

Had a quick nosey at the pegs whilst at the nec. From what I could tell, they've deleted the second detent position, and altered the profile of the mounting sub, so that the peg won't lift a full 90°. They've also altered the angle of the peg ie it doesn't lift vertical, but points back to around the 10/11 o'clock position. From what I could tell, just the mounting stub has changed....the peg etc is the same.
