Lots of talk around the re-engineered Norton Birmingham 961. Worthwhile in my opinion to have a thread that records these component changes, as they become apparent over time.

This will better enable us to make a more informed decision about spares purchase and maybe provide enough information for earliest adoption of any improvements that may be applied to our bikes.

Ideally Norton would have disclosed the re-engineering works in full. Not going to re-hash why it is likely that they did not, but the information they have provided makes for a good start point.

My guess is that the content will get a significant boost when Motervated get hold of their first Birmingham Norton.

Revised gear change linkage rod. Need to order (or purchase) male rose joints to complete the upgrade.

Couldn’t find the gear change rod detail, which is ironic as it is the only item on this thread and I put it there:rolleyes:! It was started to (potentially) assist in recording/finding information on re-engineered components.

I still think this has some merit, but maybe in a different format - open to suggestions? Maybe it could link to the alternate parts list in some way. A slow-burn thread obviously.

I guess it needs to identify the component, any changes identified and record whether it will fit directly to the Donington bikes or require modification. Or of course whether it is not compatible. Maybe it should link/reference any threads/videos that cover re-engineering detail.

An example would be the battery box which has undergone extensive modification. Stu’s done a video on this with quite a lot of detail. I think it identifies that it is compatible.

Happy to close the thread if we think it’s not necessary.

I don’t think it’s a case of not being necessary, it’s just that the information is not coming to light for whatever reasons…

Yes. I know.

All I said was ‘information is not coming to light for whatever reason’.

Stu’s videos have stopped, and that was the only decent information flow up to this point.

How are we going to compare parts and what changes were made, and what does and doesn’t fit if we can’t get those new spares?

Two observations:
- the original Hogan post would get him fired today for disclosing top secret information
- Joseph the new parts man serves as the new hope for spare parts on the Death Star

I can concur from my short history of communicating with Norton that the few people I talked to are either no longer there or not at their positions.
 
Shit, sorry guys I've let you down. Its just been the lack of time....when ever I've had some down time, I've made the most of it and spent time with the family....like today where I took Mikey to his first motorcycle event (piccy attached).
I'm planning on stripping the engine over winter. I know its the one people have been waiting on, so my apologies for the delay.

Unless the bikes are outlawed by then, I can see this photo of him somewhere in his garage with the JPS on the stand and him working on it with Stu Jr.
