Looking for recommendations for on/off-road tires for 70' commando.
Happy Father's Day.

On/off road tires

Richard- Heidenau make a similar tire the "k67" I believe the dunlops are long gone..

A nice 110/90-19

A 4.00-19

IRC GP-1 ... Inexpensive.

I've done many miles in AMA dual sport events on dual sport bikes. Dual sport tires do not hold up well ridden on the street to get to the dirt, and are not worth $165-$180 regardless of who makes them. The rears just don't last long if the bike is ridden aggressively. Fronts last longer.

You might get reasonable milage out of Dunlop K70's on the street and they are very close to a dual sport. Should work well on that smooth compacted gravel. The Duro HF308 is a similar pattern tire. The Duro HF904 is more aggressive like a flat track tire.

I’ve got K70s on my G15 and they work surprisingly well on dirt and gravel. Oddly the G15 came fitted with Dunlop universals and the P11 was delivered on K70 tires.

I’ve used Shinko 241 on my old dual sport bikes and they were great- and cheap. My only complaint was the lack of a 3.25/19

I've had K70s on two other bikes, never took them off pavement. May end up with those as I'll be on road 80% of the time. Thanks for the advice

The Avon Trail Rider survived 125 hp yanking on it for 6,000 miles.

Hell I thought this thread was for discussion, sharing tire info, clearer understanding of tire mfgs and comparisons of treads, tire longevity, rubber compounds and stuff like that.

In fact I bet there are more opinions to be considered.
Concourse most always brings good insight to a topic.
Riding with you or not is completely beside the point of the discussion.
Lots more to be heard.

Don't even consider trials tyres.
I fitted Dunlop trials universals to my road registered CCM, it tore all the tread blocks off inside 10 miles. I tried a Pirelli trials tyre on the back, that lasted about 50 miles.
A commando is heavier and more powerful, it WILL shred them

I use K60's on a B44 mainly on road but also on gravel tracks where they work well. I have tried a clay muddy field but they lose traction once the gaps gets filled with mud.

On/off road tires

Their sidewall is stiff by modern standards so pressures are lower and nearer the pressures recommended in the original 60.s 70.s manuals so especially on the rear a rim lock is needed,

"Nuff said" was about me shutting up about my riding, not about tire opinions. I'm sure there is plenty more to be said about tire specs, or other things that may or may not be on topic according to one member or another.

I gave my thoughts and got a thumbs down from concourse. I did not find that helpful, and frankly his milage response was incredulous to me based on my experience. My motorcycling experience doesn't match a lot of people's experiences here. Well aware of it. Can't please everybody.

Lol, I'll try to keep up. Be a sport & wait for me at the stop signs will ya?
You'd probably be first to the stop signs after pulling a couple wheelies. Me waiting on you would not be at an in town stop sign. More than likely out on a long stretch of rural road parked with my helmet and jacket off for 5 minutes. 🤣

I did not use any of the tires discussed in this thread so far when I was riding off road. The selections were different back then. And I never got 6000 miles out of a road, off road, or so called dual sport rear tire on any type of bike I owned. I probably changed rears sooner. I never cared much for a squared off center on a road rear tire, or rounded off ground down knobs on an off road tire. I never wore a tire down to the cords either.

When people quote me they are going to hear back. No guarantee they are going to like what I have to say.

Do you charge money for riding lessons? Or are they free to anyone who can keep you within sight?

Just teasing Schwany, carry on.
