I recently inherited a Norton Command 750 1970. It came with a lot of new and old spare parts. I have been able to identify quite a few of them, but others leave me baffled. Attached are pictures of some of the unidentified parts.

1 silencer clamp
2 gearbox inspection cover (broken on one screw hole)
4 is a rider footrest stud
5 looks like a washer from behind the knurled seat seat knob but I'm not sure
6 is a zenor diode ,this is to control DC voltage and would be bolted on the right hand footrest plate
7 is a mini cotton reel exhaust mount
Should be 2 on each silencer
Can also be used as front petrol tank mounts
8 are main jets from the carburetors
9 is probably/possibly a mounting plate for a mini custom speedo (not Norton)
I don't know where 3 ,10,11 would go

3 rear shock absorber lower mounting bolt, I believe
9 could be an aftermarket oil pressure gauge carrier
10 fuel pipe from one of the petcocks
11 is not recognized as a Norton part. (Edit: In view of LAB's reply, do we have a picture showing the extension plate fitted?)

Item 11 is part of the rear chain guard on ‘68 Commandos. It fits at the front on the tyre side of the chain. Offer it up and you will find the two mounting bolt holes match those in the main chain guard and the indentation fits against the swinging arm.
Few bikes still have it fitted owing to the difficulty of fitting it!

Item 9 is a non-standard silencer bracket, for the early model silencers.
Yes, it is setback bracket for the Muffs. Used with RGM's Big Bore kit which had extended header pipes.
I think it can also be used with a Dunstall system..

10 could also be the hose between both carb manifolds, but also fuel line that has gone hard.

This is fantastic! Thank you so much to all of you. You have saved me a lot of time browsing online parts lists.

These parts were from the new and clean parts box. There is another box of used and dirty parts as well. I'll post some more pictures when I start to clean and organize those.

12- Modified left side foot rest, shortened and rechromed.
13- Clutch basket
14- engine sprocket
15- spacer, rotor?
16- exhaust roses
17-Blue capacitor and rectifier
18-Head steady
19-Left side footrest with brake pedal, stock. Compare with 12
20-Right side foot rest

Number 9 is an RGM part probably is stainless steel. It is to mount their 1 and 1/2 inch exhaust silencers.

Here are some of the unidentified parts from the old and used box. Some of them turned out to be new, though.
I believe you need to review the parts book from the very first page to the last, then look over a complete, properly assembled Commando, to get a better insight into the parts. It is pretty clear that if you can't identify some of these parts, you will need better prep before you get started building.

THAT'S WHAT WE'RE HERE FOR. (but piecemeal isn't the right route for a beginner).

Can you please post a photo of the BIKE, as you acquired it?

I think this thread might be better off in the "Norton Motorcycle Restorations" if these parts have yet to be put on the bike. Then, more or less 'begin again' and start from a more rational starting point.

If you PM me, I can e-mail you a copy of my Excel spreadsheet that is a fair "starting point" to inventory your bike. It does NOT have each and every part, but has ALL significant components and assemblies that represent the majority of a "basket case".

Once we know what year/model you have, I could also send you a digital copy of the parts book. The various models are: Roadster (standard), Interstate, Fastback, S, SS, and High Rider.

Welcome to the group!

'1970' in the first post so that rules out SS and Interstate. There's nothing particularly standard about a Roadster at least not outside the US so just as likely to be a Fastback.

Well stated, I overlooked the "1970" bit on my first read-thru.

Worth noting that the head steady is the late type 'box-section' which doesn't break.
post-'73, perhaps?

@grandpaul Thank for your informative reply and I will take you up on your Excel sheet offer. The bike is a 1970 Norton Commando which has been converted to a cafe racer by the previous owner before my dad aquired it. The bike is able to start and runs well.

As far as I know the following modifications has been done to the bike:

* Front and rear vernier isolastics
* Primary chain case converted to belt drive
* Boyer MK3 electronic ignition
* H4 headlight and reflector
* Non-standard silencers, I think at least I have another pair which are well used
* K&N air filter
* Resleeved Amal carburettor valves
* Refurbished original tank and seat, not fitted on bike
* Clutch? Since I have a spare clutch basket with parts

Most of the parts I have been able to identify. I have used Andover Norton and the parts manual for that job. But given the nature of the bike and the modifications done to it, some of the parts are from later models and some are custom. So given that I for most of these I might not know the English name (non-native speaker), it takes a lot of time to identify them by sight. The identifications done by the members of this forum has been invaluable in pointing me in the right direction.

My plan is to restore to a more original appearance during the coming fall and winter. My plan is to I create a seperate thread then. Right now my goal is just to catalogue what I have and get an overview.
