The ongoing chaos of life with lots of family and competing interests continue to pull my time away from what is surely the world's slowest Commando rebuild. Today I found a couple of hours to complete the oil line connections. Of course it's been so long since this part of the job was interrupted I had to start over again. I believe I have confirmed this for my '72 Combat with side tank that resides behind a side cover:

-The oil feed line runs from the large banjo connection at the bottom of the rear of the oil tank, to the OUTBOARD oil connection on the engine.
-The oil return line runs from the INBOARD oil connection on the engine to the oil filter, then a second line exits the oil filter and connects to the somewhat vertical metal tube on the back of the tank.
-The engine breather runs from my XS650 reed valve to the metal tube that enters the oil tank via a tube that extends from the filler tube, pointing forward. This line is composed of two different diameters and a size adapter.
-The tank vent is a tube that exits a hump on the top of the oil tank. This can be directed to the engine air filter, a separate filter, or directly to the World.
-The chain oiler connection is typically blocked off, with chain oiling done manually.

I feel so confident I am going back to the garage right now to complete these connections. If in fact I am wrong, this will be the earliest date I've ever made my annual mistake. And, it certainly wouldn't be the first time I've had to redo something on this long running saga.
