I have a few top clamps and a few triple clamps. The fork tube holes line up but the center spindle does not. Is there a different offset somewhere in the years?
There are many features that can be different/wrong about threads.Problem solved. With the purchase of a new bottom clamp everything fit perfectly. You can't believe the amount of time wasted trying to track down the problem.
Now here's a new one. the stem is threaded 28 TPI. I have two steering stem nuts (the bearing adjuster nut), both go on perhaps 3 -4 threads and jam. Flip the nuts over and same problem. This suggests a mismatch in the thread TPI between the two. The threads in the new stem look perfect even under a close examination. So..is there a difference in thread here? I am reluctant to use a thread file on brand new threads.
06.7652 indeed has 26 tpi CEI threads. If you are sure about the stem being 28 tpi (easy to tell by counting threads over say 1.5" of stem length), your stem nut is for the pre-Commando stem. You need to obtain 06.0341, washer 06.7650 (if missed) and top nut 06.0340 .Problem solved. With the purchase of a new bottom clamp everything fit perfectly. I have a stable of G15's and a P11A. Been working on them for the last 30 odd years.MDT...you seem to have the answers to these obscure questions...what is your involvement with the earlier twins?
