What's happening at Norton? Sale to TVS, massive investment, new bikes...

I did click on the site and it shows a 961 dressed up as a "961 LE Manx", but I never heard of such a bike.
Was this a real model offered by Solihull?
If so, I wonder how many were sold.
The Manx was one of three 961 Limited Editions .. The Manx, the Transatlantic and the Energette. 150 made in total.

Almost:

Four 961s:
Manx
Transatlantic
Energette
588
All of the above in SP and CR (so 8 variants of 961 in total).

Plus two V4s:
V4S LE
CR LE.

So 10 variants in total.

A maximum of 125 LE bikes made in total (125 year anniversary).

But I’m not sure if they actually made 125 of them, could have been less.

Don't know, just recalled seeing that a few months ago when I was reaching out to them. It actually looks like a nice setup!

So did they actually sell these, or were they just for order? It would have been smarter to lead with these than just the generic version.

‘Supposed’ to be made to order as they did not make a fixed quota of each, how many they made of each was intended to be dictated by the orders received, but some were made for dealerships showroom floors.

They were VERY expensive, over £19k on the road. I think they shifted the bulk of them when they offered them on a cheap PCP deal, which made them look very attractive.

No way of varyfying this snippet from FB; seems to fit though.

Norton’s Next Big Adventure Bike Is Coming, and I Might’ve Seen It Early

TVS is reportedly developing a 600–700cc twin for Norton to rival the likes of the Honda Transalp and Yamaha Ténéré 700.

A India made Norton. No benefits in that.
No different than an India made BMW with its logo on the side.

Norton will probably built a model between the 450 twin and 1200 V4... imo it will be the new Commando, a twin, but bigger than 600 - 700cc.
I think you're correct.
A "Commando" will almost certainly appear at some point, but just not at this go around.
Creating too many different models with different engines creates complex supply chains.
Three different models for each of the 2 engine configurations seems enough of a challenge for TVS's first foray into an unknown market.
They should keep it simple, or as simple as possible.

I think calling the 961 commando a Manx was a terrible idea.

Everywhere? It’s not in North America or Australia.
Not in South America.
Naysayers?
That article literally repeats everything everywhere else has been saying for over a year.

I won’t buy another new Norton ever again. Doesn’t matter if they have a dealership in my backyard or not. They proven themselves to me.

Do you own a 961 or V4?

Show us your TVS Norton when you get yours. 👍
