…….if so, would you be able to measure the diameter of the oilways inside the crank pins? Should be either 1”, 7/8” or 5/8”. Would be good to know if it’s a dynamo crank, alternator crank, SS crank….
I’m discussing the oilways diameters with the NOC who I think might have incorrect info in the dominator service notes.
Thanks!

SS sludge trap at 5/8".

I've got at least a dynamo crank around, and maybe a non-SS alternator crank, but not sure about the latter. If nobody else has anything, I'll dig it what I've got over the next couple days.

I'd be surprised if the fellows at the NOC have incorrect crank dims, but happy to help whichever way it goes.

That’s awesome 👍

Don’t want to sell it do you??? 🤣
HA! No. Very lucky to have this one. I got two that are NOS from the Berliner (US Importer) warranty replacement stock. Sold one already. The only way I'd sell it would be to afford to replace it with an aftermarket crank, which would be a counterproductive price for you. It might be worth it to some rivet counter who will sleep better at night with a genuine crank in their genuine motor, but for us mongrel builders, an aftermarket crank with big journals would be better.

What a score!

Is the crankshaft for a road bike or a racer ? If it is for a racer, a billet crankshaft might ultimately work out to be cheaper.

The dynamo crack from my long suffering 88 race motor has a 1” dia oilway.

Yep!

Remarkable how much better finished the dynamo crank is than the SS. Very smooth trap, taper, and face finishes. Probably using the same tooling 10 years apart!
The dynamo and early alternator engines were built in the Norton factory in Birmingham, but AMC had a lot of spare capacity in Woolwich due to declining sales of outdated AJS & Matchless models, so shut the Norton factory and moved production to Woolwich but not most of the workers (who new how to get the best out of the old machines & tooling).
It would be interesting to see how the ss cranks compared, before and after the move.
