1973 Norton Commando 750 rear tire

"The rider's manual specifies a 4.10-19 tire but there won't be clearance to the chain guard with a tire wider than the 100/90-19 (3.5-19)"

Over the years I have run a number of 410x19TT100's on Commando's without problem, clearance should not be a problem, are you running a chainguard? as Commando's run a narrow 5/8x3/8 chain called 10B, a 530 or 530H may rub on the chainguard.

The Dunlop 4.10 - 19 K81/TT100 has a width of 4.17 in. I measured the Avon and it's close to that. That may be my only option but the tread is different than the Avon.

I do have a chain guard.

Yes I have just measured the 410x19 TT100 fitted to my 1969 Fastback which measures 4.13" inflated and clears chainguard etc

The 100/90x19 Avon Roadrider on my Mk3 measures a fraction over 4.1" again inflated, as the Avon is more rounded profile fit a TT100 to the front and the Roadrider on the rear

Got this in response to my inquiry I sent to Avon.

"The good news is that the RoadRider MKII range is still in our catalog, but production has been moved to a new manufacturing facility and we won’t see tires arriving until later this year."

OP, be aware, the tires marked for front/rear fitment have less tread depth, (compared to DEDICATED rear tires) as shown in the previously posted charts.

About 4,000 spirited miles

I ended up getting a new Avon Roadrider 100 90 19 from Walridge. Made in England. Date code 4223.
Did you get tariffed? Uk made so Id think no tariff due to US/Canada tariff war...but may get a UK rate tariff...happy times!

Does anyone run an Avon Roadrider 100/90-18 on the rear? Wondering if it will clear the chaingauard as Avon lists as being 4.25" wide.

I,ve run a 4.00 x 18" Avon RR for two tyres now. Got a 2 to 3 thousand more miles than the 19" Avon RR per tyre as the tread depth is greater as its a dedicated rear. Beauty about this set up is the 4.00 x 18" has the same rolling diameter as the 100/90 x 19 RR. Its mounted on a WM3 x 18" rim
Avon list the 100/90 x 18 as 108mm wide and the 4.00 x 18 as 116mm wide

So wider, more tread depth and clears the chaingard. Sounds like the route to go.

Ask Rob @ Starving photographer He runs 18" front and rear, WM4 rim I think, with a 120 tire, no chainguard interference. On one of my 74's I run a 130/16 rear but I had to notch the chainguard. I think with an 18" rear rim the max is 120 depending on rim width. Ask Rob

Same here.

Been working on a friends MK3 recently and noted he has Avon RR 100/90-19 front and 120/90-19 rear...chainguard clearance seems fine.

Are you quite sure about that?

I didn’t think the Road Rider 120 19 was a thing …
