oil pump and chain tensioner torque

The book calls for 15 ft / lbs. Seems a bit too much. Any ideas?

"Cam chain tensioner nuts (2 nuts, 06-2692) 15 ft lb.

Oil pump stud nuts (no washers, 2 nuts, 06-7592) 10 to 12 ft lb."

The numbers Les quoted above are also as per OldBritts torque tables and Norman White's book (p101)
That's what I'd use, but you may want to risk using lower numbers.

That's what I was quoting from.

John Hudson in his engine rebuild video said 100 inch pounds (8.3333 lbs ft.) was plenty.

I tried 15 as the manual said and one nut felt mushy as I was tightening it and the stud will require a helicoil. I made a drill guide last night and a set of junk cases to practice on.

The workshop manual indicates two figures, use the figure in the rebuild description, not the front of the manual for the oil pump.

If it's pulling out at 15 then the thread in the cases was crap.
How low are you going to go for the same diameter nuts/studs, threaded into alloy, under the exhaust ports, holding the head down? Manual says 20 ft.lb - is that too high for you?
In my view, if you have to helicoil to safely get to recommended torque, so be it.

Who knows what damage some previous owner did to the threads in the last 50 odd years? It is good practice to stop tightening if you feel something is not right and who among you has ever checked their torque wrench for accuracy?
The fastener manufacturers torque tightening figures relate to the particular fasteners strength, not the strength of the material they are screwed into. Studs used in cast aluminium tend to have coarser threads in the aluminium than at the nut end which further complicates things.
Sorry if I am stating tho obvious or preaching to the converted.

The studs holding on the disc to the front wheel call for 20 ft/lbs nut torque. Is that also an error?
