As titled. What have you got?
The Honeywell es120-0030 is of no use as its an ntc sensor, not ptc. So I'm looking for an original es120-24.

Honeywell very kindly set me the full specs, for both the es120-0030 and the es120-24...shows quite clearly why they aint compatible...I'll attach the pdf's later. Honeywell have no crossreference, nor does SMPE....its really stumped everyone.
 
The two types in the 120 range are NTC and KTY and the 120-0024 seems to be the only KTY spec one in the range - the response curves seem to go in totally the opposite directions. Have I understood this correctly?

Yes, exactly that.
NTC is negative temperature coefficient, and ptc is positive temperature coefficient...kty works the same way as ptc but is just a lot more accurate and suitable for temperature recording rather than reacting ie a ptc would be good to trigger a light once it's hot, rather than give you an accurate temperature reading of something warming up.
 
Just googled my Bosch replacement and it’s an NTC. Is that bad ?

The 961 head temp sensor is an NTC one, as are most of the sensors used in that type of application, which is why Stu is struggling to find a PTC/KTY one (not sure what he's using it for).
 
Ok understood now. So we are ok with our (updated) head sensors then. So yes I wonder.......?

Early Vs late bikes. They changed the sensor....and ECU software accordingly so must be an early one I suspect

Didn't know that. Mine's a 2013, with an NTC sensor and an SC Typhoon ECU. I wonder if it was the ones prior to September 2012 (when SC started supplying the Typhoon ECU to Norton) with the Omex ECUs that had the other sensor.

I have one of the very early 961s 2010 with the Honeywell head sensor (ES120-0024), and just asking if the ECU can be reprogrammed to read the Bosch head sensor ES120-0030,
I found a spare sensor but just a little worried if they break what to do as tried the Bosch sensors in it an runs like crap till hot. cheers Rob

Hello , The ES120-0030 is a Honeywell part and it is NTC (negative temperature coefficient). The reason I use the Honeywell ES120-0030 instead of the Bosch NTC sensor is because of better specs. The Honeywell has a higher maximum temp range 150deg C instead of the 130deg C of the Bosch. But both are NTC though. The ES120-0030 is still available from Honeywell electronics suppliers .

Hi Rob, so you (and I) have an Omex 600 (you can check here https://www.accessnorton.com/NortonCommando/ecus-for-future-reference.35982/). If I understand correctly the early bikes were equipped with the ES120-0024, which is KTY / PTC. The ES120-0030 is not a compatible replacement as it’s NTC, which would explain why your bike runs poorly with one fitted. I don’t know if Stu managed to get any, and the link that @kommando posted is dead. If no source for them comes to light, I guess the only way forward would be to ask Omex for advice.
