Monoblocks vs Concentrics 650SS

I've decided just to make life easy and just run concentrics like the later 650ss had.

Looking at filtration options now. The Atlas air cleaner would work but it looks like a PITA and heavy.

There is always the option of short belmouths with screens and gauze.

Screening a belmouth is known to cause a richer mixture I believe?

What Mike said :) chopped on the 650ss before the Concentrics, I’m running brand new Amal chopped on mine with the insert sleeves to sleeve the intakes down had them on for 4 years n 4 winters n been great.

If you anyone gets new premier Concentrics for the 650ss make sure they fit the right pilot jets had me chasing my tail when I used to have them on the 650ss till I double checked them.

Switched over to the Monoblocs as mines a very late 66’ reg 67 she originally was spec’s with monoblocs

i bought from the original owner, had a single carb conversion on it. N stuck the premiers rejetted on my early 68 Commando

Hi I believe no filter as an option, on my 1963 650ss I fitted a later Atlas filter, pain in but though, bugger all room.

The Lawton Wilson Production race winning 650 1962 bike used 1 1/16 Monos wirh std bell mouths and steel manifold sleeves , Later pictures show it with 2 inch trumpets. It could well have had the Alcohol float valves .

Glen, are you using the "standard" commando K&N filter, or the thinner knockoffs that CNW (and British Cycle) sells for the CNW electric starter setup?

This is the one I used. It's a tight fit!

Monoblocks vs Concentrics 650SS

I think we have gotten away from the original posted question, Monoblock or Concentric, which is best on a 650SS? I have used both types, I like the Monoblock on single carb applications as it's just so easy to adjust the idle speed when the bike is a bit cold. On my 1967 650SS I have two 28mm Concentrics on it, they are new Amal carbs with the aluminium bodies rather than the monkey metal originals. The bike runs superbly and would not replace them with Monoblock's. Performance wise, buy a GSXR1000 if that's what's important to you. My old bike runs really well with smallish Concentrics on it .

what were the jets that you had that made it run best?

They had one size to small compared to the Norton book settings so just went to that :) worth checking incase they are still sending the out wrong did that before switching to the monoblocs.
