Tesla AI Kills Two Motorcyclists

Is this the piece I read from ADVrider or Canadian Moto guide ? Aconcerning developement that for sure ! Thanks for putting up here …. Think this tech on fast track in free world

And possibly another (not yet reported if AI was in use):

As Fortnine says in the video calling it Autopilot when its functionality falls far short of that is an issue, especially when that label is taken literally.
Having taken delivery of a Model 3 just 2 weeks ago (i don't and won't use auotpilot) i can say that the adaptive cruise control on the VW Passat i was driving previously, while not fault free, was considerably less prone to random braking etc than the Tesla is proving to be.

What I think is lost on most people, esp owners of these things, AI recognition systems are not the equivalent of human visual perception. A human has a vast history of experience/behavioral intuition. When we see a child playing on a sidewalk with a ball, we immediately know what that can mean in terms of predicting future scenarios. We know this because we all grew up from being children and knowing what they tend to do. Same is true for animals (wild or otherwise), paper bags versus a wooden boards laying on the pavement.
Any AI system just has a database of similar images to compare to the pixel patterns it is "seeing". It has no behavioral foundation on which to "know" what an object tends to do. Just a potentially endless list of what the item is similar to and whether to steer clear of or brake for it. This is completely unlike how humans perceive things around themselves and anticipate what may happen next.

I would suggest it is never "random" braking, just braking applied at incorrect/inappropriate times. These things are flawed and are being used to make life critical decisions, and so far with no legal consequences. Why does a human's auto insurance have to cover an aI's mistakes and not the manufacturer? If a car company sold parts or components that had dangerous flaws, they are typically held to account via recalls etc. Seems AI gets a pass on this.

It's hard enough as it is riding on the street.
And Now This.....
Tesla's are everywhere now.
One MUST ride like they are invisible.....

Musk and Tesla are darlings of the establishment right now, hence devoid of meaningful criticism.

We all fly on aeroplanes these days… we all know what autopilot means... it means captain and co pilot can walk around, or go to sleep, etc.

How on earth Tesla can use the term autopilot when it is clearly not is just amazing.

Imagine the uproar if it was Toyota’s AI that was killing people …

Kind of difficult to replace a sober human brain with software. Not to difficult to replicate a drunk apparently. This is some f..cked up news.

Thanks for the heads up. Will use my rear-view mirror more in the daylight. I don't ride at night.

Also, tryto make the rear of bike/your helmet/back more visible, esp for dark times. A proper reflective safety vest may well have saved these two riders lives.

Obviously programmed to simulate a real driver. If you are not a threat, they do not see you. What we need are motorcycles which resemble Mack trucks.

Or we could have a device on the motorcycle which sends a signal to a following driver - such as a baseball bat.
Actually I can recall, decade or so ago, discussions of having vehicles transmit their locations, directions, speeds continually, so other vehicles could then determine what was coiming around a corner, through an intersection, in that icy curve ahead or in the snow storm white out/fog bank etc. This info could then be acted on, via AI or even passed to the human driver.

I find the whole technology disgusting
It should never have got far enough that a person got injured let alone killed!!!
How on earth do these people sleep at night
A mate of mine was on a speed awareness course recently,he only drives classic minis ,he was asked what do you think would be the best way to improve road safety?
He said do away with ABS and auto braking
Do away with airbags and traction control etc
Apparently that wasn't the kinda answer they were looking for !!

I believe Eddie Izzard had a great solution to improve road safety....fit a giant spike to the steering wheel, an inch away from and pointed right between the driver's eyes..... ;-)

Remember the thrust of this tech has always supposedly been safety , to correct driver’s error ! Maybe putting on public roads too early in development to boost $$$ participation from Gov & investment …. Wow

AI is coming. Big government loves it.
There will be more to come.
What needs to be done are some kind of transmitter fitted to undersize vehicles, IE motorcycles, scooters, Spyders etc.
Or a transmitter that can be carried in a pocket so it can used on multiple vehicles.

Just consider yourself invisible, no one can see you.
I for the life of me don't get the cruisiers riding solo clogging traffic.
I'm always moving along, just a little bit faster..

So AI killed some people. How many people have people killed?

Once they figure out liability issues, human drivers will be outlawed

Can't take AI to court. Blameless R&D. Beta testing with live human targets.

Gotta wonder if Elon and big government figure humans are expendable acceptable collateral damage. Especially humans on pesky motorcycles.
