EV drawbacks

Not necessary IMO so long as he has reliable to access to Super Unleaded. At between 97 and 99 octane, super unleaded is good petrol.
I did a quick search for the CR on these engines, appears the later HE variants went to 12.5:1... Quite high in those days

Don't forget the damage electric cars do to the road compared to fossil burners
As I understand it electric cars are a lot heavier than the equivalent petrol/diesel
So at the moment the "road fund license" is paid by the non electric car driving people even though they do less damage!
I don't know how much longer they will hold off with not charging electric cars the road fund license
Let's see
Electric cars are heavier but not enough to affect pavement design. It is a while since I studied it but heavy goods vehicles only were used in calculating the design loading for road pavement.

Are you sure a heavier car causes no more wear to the road than a lighter car ?
As an example I have read the average electric family saloon is approximately 30% heavier than petrol/diesel
The roads may be designed with hgv in mind
But surely a car must cause some wear
Otherwise why do we all pay a road fund license?

Bitumen as we all know is a bi product of crude oil ...how good will these bio fuel binders work and for how long for our roading ? New Zealands one in only oil refinery is being shut down and the government is importing 2nd grade bitumen.... (carbon footprint my arse) their goal is to rid us earthlings of the use of oil....
Look whats happening right now in Germany..."How dare you" Greta talked Germany into shutting down their nuclear power plants ...right now they are gearing to firing up outdated old coal fired power stations as they are 57% reliant on Russian gas
To think that no country put sanctions on Hitler while he run his regime of terror..and now our tax money is supporting one of the most corrupt countries in the world..."Closer to home"
The Lithium mining in Western Australia started in 2018 and it is already ruining the environment....dont look for it on Google because its censored...(can be found using less corrupted search engines)
I know people in Bunbury W.A (family) that tell a true story of its impact
They can call the company Greenbushes to give it the environmental compliance sounding name...the truth is its not...people around the world are now standing up to the lunacy that is being inflicted on us all...rant over

The UK government is depending on technology catching up within the next few years
With no more fossil burning cars after 2030 and no more bikes after 2035
Absolutely ridiculous
A couple of years ago I had a new neighbor move in
He said to me "oh I see you have a diesel car,are you not worried about the environment?"
It amazes me that people think they are saving the planet with an electric car
How do they think the electric is generated?
Saving the planet with EVs? That's only if you turn a blind eye the the environmental damage cobalt mining has been doing or if you believe that clean energy come out of your home's electrical socket. Someone once said that EVs are in reality coal fired vehicals. It seems to me that there is a deficit of understanding brought on by a willingness to over simplify issues and to apply one size fits all fixes.

When it comes to making energy work for you .....

1) first law of thermodynamics .....you can't get something for nothing
2) second law of thermodynamics ......worse than that, you can't break even
3) third law of thermodynamics ..... that is the way things are, you might as well get used to it.

Slick

Well we have come along way since the steam engine

Until recently i was driving a VW Passat wagon, current specs in NZ show 1586 kg weight, for comparison Tesla Model 3 lists at 1830kg. So heavier but compared to HN loading for trucks in NZ at a 12 tonne axle load with multiple axles per vehicle then not that much difference. And the change in effect on the roads is not linear with axle load, the heavier loads have wayyyy more effect.
The volume of cars means that the roads need more capacity than if only for trucks so cars/bikes help pay for the additional space and for convenience of access.

The main reason Germany decided to shut down it's AKW 's (Nuclear power stations)
Was after public reaction to the Fukushima disaster.
F all to do with Greta.
And no I don't support her.

Nothing against Greta I feel sorry for her
Nobody should be so manipulated as she clearly is
But now we are paying the price for our governments following a teenager
She seems to have fallen out of favour of late , now people are starting to panic about being so reliant on russian gas
And the impact on energy prices in general

Correction: That is how they THINK they are going to "save" the planet, and EVERYTHING THEY DO is for themselves.

OK, GP, ..... permit me to amend my comment ....

That is how the elites PLAN to save the planet for THEMSELVES.
Only if enough of non-elites wake up will their plan fail.
I am happy to see there are some aware people on this Forum.

Slick

Don't mean to butt in...but
As I said earlier there is going to be a uprising in Europe and the UK of people in the coming months...People have had enough already of these World Economic Forum Davos dictators ..I see it turing to custard for them...because for one their alternative energy substitutes are a failure !!
They will be cold hungry and angry
