well this is just my opinion///////butt...…… as some of you'uns know and the rest ere to find out..i put a Bike Seat Factory Made in Vietnam corbin clone-ish seat on my commando several months ago...most of my riding corn-sists of 40 mile-ish or so bimbos or bimbles as some pre-far to call it and the seat is very well made and worked/felt grate for sich fun rides../………….but last Sunday I rode the bike nearly 100 miles and by the time I was done my cloaca and straddle were screaming...…..so.....I came home and put stock seat and grab rail back on...…...nice and cushy but not as racy looking that's my re-port take it as you will
 
I figured you would return to the fold..... Tis far better to have a comfy ass than to look cool for the unwashed masses.

Never tried one myself, but read several reports that original Corbin seats are also rock hard.

Corbin seats don’t get their comfort from being soft, they get it from being very arse shaped. They also support the rider and hold them in place, taking strain off of hands, arms, legs when riding.

I‘ve had a Corbin on mine since 2014. I briefly fitted a very good quality Roadster seat that was nicely padded. But it’s very narrow compared to a Corbin and felt a little like sitting on a padded pole. And as soon as I opened the throttle I was sliding around on it. It made me realise how good the Corbin was. I only fitted it so I could take the kids on the back, so when they got bored with that I re-fitted the Corbin ASAP !

That said, bottom line is they suit some and not others.

I have found with the softer seats,(not just commando) they squash down and become more and more uncomfortable

The moral of Alan’s story is ‘don’t buy cheap knock-off shit and expect it to work like the good stuff’...

Yes Nigel I agree to a point but --- the price of Corbin seats in the UK is insane, they need a distributor over here. I'm not tight but by the time I could get a Corbin over here it would be about £700. I've bought two complete Commandos for that (ok it was a while ago )

Fair point. It’s a while since I bought mine and even though I’ve forgotten the price, I know it wasn’t that steep.

I had a Leightons seat on my T160 with about 1” thicker foam padding than standard. It seemed very comfy whilst I was running the bike in etc.

First long trip was John O’ Groats to Lands end. We did approx 640 miles on the first leg getting up to Wick ( ear John O’ Groats). After about 60-70 miles it basically felt like I was sitting directly on the seat pan. I am not exaggerating when I say it was excruciating after a while, and it just got excruciatinger !!

I was popping Ibroprufen at fuel stops. My mate on his nice, new, ergonomically designed Speed Triple thought it was hilarious...

One of the others here. My avatar has my commando with a corbin but i sold the seat on years ago, and more recently i did a couple of weeks on an ST1300 hire bike which turned out to have a Corbin. For me it was awful but after a couple of days I swapped bikes with my riding mate and he loved it.

I too looked at the price a few years back, tried the local HD dealer in case they had 'connections' but no, we have to go direct. Like most, I reckon, they came to my attention via the CNW bikes, but in the end I decided not to customise and stick visually OE.
But(t), bottom line is: In the UK we do get a bum deal, and I couldn't be arsed to pay that much....

Corbin didn’t suit me either, (other bikes) but the Cdo seat (with new Leighton foam) is too soft.

The one on my commando is actually from an oif triumph I had to modify it to fit
But I utilized the commando seat knobs so I can change in seconds to a standard seat
It cost about £60 from fleabay so I'm happy
 
Had a Corbin Gunfighter on my Commando and I loved all about it - comfort , looks but for some reason it came through with a pointed detail down the back which I never liked - a little to Harleyesque for my tastes . When I redid my Commando I sold off the original Corbin and bought a new one to be rid of the pointed thing . When the new one arrived I was surprised at the change in quality ( perceived at least) . The original seat pan was smooth and nicely finished and had inspection stickers signed off by quality control people. The new seat pan is very coarse - probably some recycled material and no inspection stickers evident. The original had the nose finished in suede where it meets the tank - the new one just bare seam, stitching and pop rivets. Lastly the upholstered hump had a dent in it . Were I not planning on making a cowl for it I would have returned it . With shipping I paid north of $ 550. IIRC .
I think Corbin is slipping a bit.

Yep, I've got Commando seat knobs on both my T160s, one of which also has a UK size T150v seat, which is a damn site more comfortable than the standard T160, then again a bed of nails would be better than that.
I have a Burton Bike bits small hump seat on one of my Commandos, it's ok comfort wise, at least as good as stock and looks good to me.
