Ive always (incorrectly) thought they were so damn expensive because they were made in Italy, a country with relatively high wage costs.

With this world wide virus that started its course in China I now think the world is starting to wake up to the fact that each country has sold out to making things cheaper in China, the world has now open the doors to cheaper made product made in China but our importers are still selling the Chinese made product at a high price for making more money, we have closed a lot of our manufacturing plants down and getting things made in China because of low wages and now its to late to start our manufacturing plants back up because of the cost, but we have to start rethinking our ideas to bring back making things at home again.

It looks like the India operation is geared at the Indian market, and the Chinese one at cars and trucks. So the mc stuff is still made to high Italian standards ?

i think it was always about greater profit and greed.

That is the initial plan, drop the cost but keep the retail price high. It works for a short time and then the Chinese factory starts to make knock offs in overtime and sells them cheap (every factory in China must be a minimum 50% Chinese owned, so the Chinese run the place regardless of the name on the gate) or the molds and tooling are copied and used at another factory just down the road. You end up having to chase the market price downward.

The ISO 9000 definition of quality is 'fit for purpose'., A better definition is 'fit for purpose with obvious attention to detail' - metallurgy is not a strongpoint in some countries. Anything is 'fir for purpose' as long as it fits and functions for a while'. You should see what is in our recycle depots in Australia, these days.

Well I got 2 Italian bikes both with Brembo all round , absolutely great stopping , the Norton has brembo M/C and the stopping improved greatly , great working brakes are necessary , base my judgement on how stuff works and lasts , no complaints so far ....
