Hello Access Norton Forum

My name is Matthew and I work for SCS Delta. Myself and my colleagues worked at Specialist Components when that company supplied ECUs to Norton for the 961. Since the creation of Specialist Control Systems, we have developed the ECU range further with the introduction of the Delta 400 which was designed to be 100% compatible with the 961.

SC supplied over 800 ECUs to Norton between September 2012 and January 2016 with serial numbers between 9176758 and 9178569. The Typhoon V4 ECU was supplied to Norton ‘locked down’ so that communications were only possible using dealer software, SXCar. The software shows all engine sensor parameters, allows for an idle reset to be performed and allows for upload of different calibrations.

As Norton have gone into administration I realise that many owners are concerned about the future of the brand and the support for bespoke products fitted to the bikes. Having dealer level access to the ECU will allow any faults to be diagnosed and keep the bikes running as intended. We are going to host our full dealer software package for free download which will work with ours communications cable which is available on our website here:

Well done Matthew - it's great to know that a previous Norton supplier has such a caring attitude. For those of us with post 2016 bikes ie OMEX ECU (or indeed OMEX pre 2012 bikes), can any of your ECU products be fitted to replace the OMEX? If so, any idea of cost? I believe a conversion cable is required as the harnesses are different

Hi

We converted a very early bike from Omex to the Delta 400 so can we produce an adapter for these. The EU4 Omex bikes had different wiring, so we would need a copy of the wiring diagram to be able to produce the relevant patch lead. I understand these were posted online here by the factory, but the link no longer works - does anybody have a copy?

I have just found a scan of the Euro4 diagram that I got from my dealer - I will email it to you at support@... - Alan

That's terrific Matthew. Thank you very much for the generous offer! That should alleviate the fears of a lot of owners and assure them it is safe to keep their bikes.

This is out of my world of tinkering knowledge, but I am super pleased that you have come forward with this. I have a 19 model so assume it has a different ECU to those in your range, but it sounds like you are saying that should an issue arise, it would be very possible to adapt your hardware and software to fit. Very reassuring. Thanks

Where were you guys when everyone was asking about the ecu months and years ago?

Hello Matthew , Will this software work with your new Delta 400 ECU ? I have a SC ECU Bike and wondered if that ECU was still available to purchase if it should go bad ? Or do we need to upgrade to the Delta 400 if our original SC goes bad ? Is it worth having the original SC repaired ? The maps for the Original SC will not work for the SCS Delta 400 ? Thanks

Hello TonyA

Unlike the Norton ECU the Delta 400 is not locked down in anyway so uses our standard software package - SXTune. This not only allows for viewing live data, idle set and loading of maps, but also full access to every parameter in the calibration in real time. Original Calibration files can be loaded to the new specification hardware.

We use some of the same components in our new Delta range, so original ECUs may be repairable. However some components are already no longer available so a replacement maybe more cost effective than a repair - if the situation arises then you can send the unit to us to inspect.

Thank you - this is received - we will work on a wiring translation so if it becomes required we will have an option.

Thank you Mathew, it truly is good news that an option to go down the Delta 400 route could be available on a euro4 bike should the existing ecu fail. Not only that but it then makes it possible to have a skilled tuning analyst to come up with good maps once we start to have to replace other components ...

Hello Again , Matthew , Is the same cable interface required for both the Original and the Delta 400 ? I have tried to download the software and was getting an error message.

Yes, the same CAN-USB interface fitted with the OBD connector will work with both ECUs.

I have just updated the link - it appears to work here, however can I ask you to try again?

yes good now thanks ., I will purchase the cable/adapter from your site next .. DONE !

Matthew,

Can the original Norton ECU's be unlocked and tuned with the SXTune software.
It is possible to view live data, idle set and loading of maps, full access to every parameter in the calibration in real time with the Norton ECU?

Hi BritTwit

Yes the original ECU can be unlocked and upgraded to 'Storm 2' specification however it needs to be sent back to us in the UK for this. The cost of the unlock and upgrade is £250+VAT(where applicable)

Thank you Matthew for your presence on this forum! I have to ask though...assuming that this SXCar software program/cable combo is the same as what Norton and the dealers had, how is it going to make my bike run any better now that I have it in my hands? Neither of the most common programs ( #77 or #91) were/are ideal. I have upgraded all the sensors and my bike has the Norton short open slip-ons and retains the Lambda sensors.
