I know America is a big place but in the winter do they cover the roads with salt to melt the ice like they do o Blighty?
Just curious.

Depends were in America you are.
In the North east salt it is thrown all about on the first hint of possible snow.
Some areas spray a salty brine on the roads which is not quite as bad as solid salt.

I live in Rhode Island(New England)& salt is really unbelievable! Everything is covered in salt. I bought a white so you can't always see it!! Every vehicle rots early.

I'm on Long Island, New York.
Sometimes sand, sometimes salt. Sometimes I believe calcium chloride or the pre snow solution. But riding to the beach a few times per month, I'm screwed either way. Really jealous of those shiny exhaust nuts you guys have. Mine are a lovely brown.

Up here in RI it's mostly salt or a little calcium chloride. But that's only recently. Went to Long Island with my exwife a bunch of years ago in a Miata. Nice car for that island.

The further east the better. I think the same about RI. Better riding roads.
