States' Rights? Trump to Ban California from Making Its Own Laws

The excuse of "so and so has a big house, a plane, farts coal dust and kills baby seals," to justify one's own behavior went out of style in 2nd grade.

Yep. Hillary is crooked. Does that make it ok to only be slightly less crooked (by one's own accounting)?

Yep. China creates twice the carbon emissions. They also have far more solar-derived energy than us and 3 times the population. Does it justify our making a mess? Not facing the realities of the changing climate is going to cause us to lose out on the economic boons available, while we wring our hands and stomp our feet about Hillary's email server.

Yep, California has strict environmental regulations. The voters in this state have spoken and want it that way. Shouldn't they get to decide something that concerns their health and safety? The air in the Central Valley (a historically conservative voting area) is still amongst the worst in the nation, and by all accounts toxic. The regulations exist (and continue to tighten) to continue to make it better for the people that breathe that air. Even with the "job killing" standards, California's economy would still be the world's 5th largest, if it stood alone. I own a manufacturing business in California, and it's not easy, or possible, to comply with everything, but trying my best is just the right thing to do.

Government is not the ideal dictator of behavior, that's for sure, but we've been waiting 250 years for the appearance of Mr Adam Smith's invisible hand to do something about it. Until then...

...how the privately-held car industry deals with the California standards outside California is up to them, not California.

More money used to equal winning/comfortable life ,it quickly becoming a little different , as younger folks equate winnng as living , breathing and drinking clean water and air .... big changes are in the offing , the next 20-30 years or so are going to be very “interesting times” ... wish I was going to be around to see it .... in my life our family always lived by methods that are now just starting to be adopted by some .... we heated with wood I cut , ate food we grew ,hunted ,gathered and fished , always lived within walking ,biking distance from work , did our own work : housing, yard, car , bikes, snow etc. ... no guilt here , but still saddened by way we all (world) seem to be facing the fact that we have to change and soonest is best !! ... damn , wish I was younger

Polluters should be punished by juries deciding the old common law tort of nuisance

Regulation, all too often, is a conspiracy between the regulated industry and politicians.

Environmental regulation, too often, is a conspiracy between polluters and politicians. Polluters buy safe harbors from the politicians to protect the polluters from juries that hand out jackpot judgments. Politicians yammer about protecting the public while they take bribes from the polluters

Politicians appoint commissions staffed with retired industry insiders while industry pays for seats at the regulatory table. The same goes for regulatory agency staffing

The general public too often cannot sue. The Federal Aviation Agency bars lawsuits for being “stuck on the tarmac” for 8 hours. You can’t sue your crooked stock brokerage house, the Securities and Exchange Commission disallows it. These are “safe harbors” from jury judgments. Your recourse is an “administrative claim” made through the captured agency or commission.

The same applies in environmental affairs

did you know that the state california tried to disqualify Trump from the 2020 california presidential ballot by claiming they required him to disclose his tax returns in order to be on the ballot in their state? They just lost that court case btw.

You start a lot of these anti trump threads. I don't see you starting any anti obama, anti hillary, or anti pathetic american liberal threads, so the underlieing theme is that you apply your scrutiny to Trump and not those to whom you give a free pass on their shenanigans.

It's not that Trump is such a nice person that I defend him. I'm sure he's (as Danno put it) a prick, but he's not wrong about a lot of the misguided corrupt DNC policies and agenda. Their agenda makes about as much sense as an episode of star trek.

This thread you just started isn't about greenhouse gas standards, it's about Trump...

So just come out with it. Do you, or don't you hate Trump? and why? I'm dieing to hear your explanations, and the proof you cite for them. Let's go smart guy... You post most of this anti-Trump nonsense.

First of all, the start of this thread was NOT about Trump or even anti- Trump- I entered NO COMMENT about that at all- you merely assumed it was. My reply on P.11 didn’t even make it clear to your narrow minded brain-so do tell me and all the rest of us where on this subject and this thread have I been anti- Trump?

FYI, yes I have commented in the past on Trump when I considered it was warranted, (as I Have about Bush, Thatcher, Blair, e.t.c.) ……. but on this thread- zilch –nothing!

An own goal me –thinks!

Trump is not only a prick, he' a misogynist, a racist, a creep, a low-intelligence moron with a low high school reading level, a compulsive and pathological liar, a hypocrite, a con-man, a screwer of porn stars while his wife was pregnant, a failure as a "businessman", a fascist and a disgrace to the Presidency. It has nothing to do whether I "like" him or not, he was that way his whole life before I ever knew he existed. If you do "like" him, you must be one. too.

During the debate, when he followed Hilary around sniffing her like a bloodhound, she should have wheeled around and punched him square in the face. Does anyone actually need more proof the above statements are true? Where the hell have you been the last 2 1/2 years?

Blooming heck Danno, this person has so many faults you begin to wonder how a Psychiatric Doctor would assess his mental health – they would probably end up going round the bend themselves!

There are several who have said publicly that he's mentally unstable. With his penchant to lash out at anyone who criticizes him, his huge ego seems fragile as an overinflated party balloon.

On the hypocrisy front, his latest escapade (pressuring the new Ukranian President to investigate the Bidens' business dealings there, he totally ignores the fact that his gits do biz all over the world and all the Donald could come up with was Hilary's e-mails and "Presidential harrassment".

The interview in which he said something to the effect that he didn't do it, but if he did, it would probably be ok and that the call in question was "perfect" shows he can't be cornered because his pathological need to lie to try to keep himself in a good light will never let him admit to doing anything illegal or unconstitutional.

i would run for president but my fun days back in the 70s when i lived in swinging singles apartment complexes would come back and haunt me wouldn't they Peggy, Jackie, Suzie, Liz, Kate, Terri, etc etc etc ??

Your point being that it's not important to point out hypocrisy of the finger pointers? I disagree. In fact that is a very important point because a solution that applies to only some of us and not all of us isn't going to work, nor have public support. That's the case with every aspect of governance. People will support fair laws that apply equally to all. So, It matters that Al Gore's home uses 21 times the amount of energy as the average american home, yet he's out there lecturing others about their carbon footprint. It matters that Hillary committed the same crimes that others had their lives ruined over and still other's went to jail for, while she was given a fake investigation and a free pass... If it doesn't matter that there is fairness, then why should it matter to people from other states if federal environmental law is unfair and detrimental to californians? right?...

This ^^^ was my point. You hate Trump, and in this case post a bunch of anti trump crap regularly in the pub. IMO, posting links to anti trump articles and opinions isn't like discussing an issue in the forum. It's more like posting links that confirm your opinions without defending them. Pick a policy and criticize it. Tell us why it's "fucked up" or wrong, or immoral. The above statement is an "I don't like him" statement and seems to be the basis of most of you anti-trumpers.

It doesn't matter that you don't like Trump, or someone doesn't like Obama, or hillary, or whoever,.. It matters if you can show they are doing the wrong or right thing.

I got news for you Danno, Biden has already stuck his own head in that noose. If you ever see the video of him saying that he told the Ukrainians that they weren't getting the american government aid money they were promised unless they fired a prosecuter within 36 hours because the prosecuter was investigating the company Biden's son works for, then you should see it. It's the best kind of evidence, self incrimination.

As I've said many times Trump isn't a "great guy", nor a regular Joe type, but I think he saw what a mess liberals were making this country into and decided to run for president. I do think in his case it's very much a big ego that motivates him, but I think on many policies, his position is more realistic than the liberal positions, especially since the democrats have swung so far left. I do think Trump's main motivation to do well for the country is for his own ego, so he can go down in history as a "great president". We would all probably want a person who is president who had the more altruistic motivations of a Jimmy Carter type, but we don't. We have Trump who's certainly a character.

I don't know if you notice, but I don't call anyone I disagree with names. I only discuss whether they are right or wrong, and the fact surrounding an issue. If you need to show your hate, then I think you've lost your objectivity.

None of this really affects the lives of everyday folks like us, except to aide those people in driving a wedge between all of us to promote their agendas with our senseless bickering. I don't 'like' any of them because I don't know them. The only thing I know of them is the image they or the media promote of which neither is true. So how in the world can I honestly get ticked at someone for their thoughts when they form them from the same misinformation or lack thereof as myself...… To them we are all useful stooges and should not kid ourselves into believing their pandering for the vote, money, & power..... Sometimes the eagles squabble and a drifting feather passes betwixt our buttock cheeks giving us a passing thrill nothing more.

yeah, it's sad that some people chose an insult, rather than explain why they have an opposing belief.

I totally "get" california's reason to have more stringent air pollution laws. I wasn't arguing they are wrong. My argument was more about one of the many trump haters posting another trump hating thread. (which of course bernhard has denied...)

A slur is not an argument

When you don’t have an argument, what do ya do? Name call

That’s all we get from the Left these days

Oh my! Ergo, if one does not adhere to the ideology of the right one is a name caller?

I think this thread is devolving. Thanks. It was fun. Going to go ride my bike now.

Australia is the 'canary in the coal mine'. Our famers vote for the Nationals who keep the LNP climate change deniers in power. However they also get taxpayer-funded drought, flood and bushfire relief through the National party. Our free trade agreement with China which the LNP signed. favours farmer access to foreign markets at the expense of manufacturing in Australia. - So who loses when we have ten year droughts and cyclones which stuff farm production.

me cum to this forum to escape polly ticks but fell in its ass crack anyhow last visit to this corn-tentious thread bye bye
