2011 961 Headlamp change

Good , I can use a few more spares too. I will email him soon , Thanks .

Well things started well, but 31st May is the last i heard from Max. He was to get back to me "tomorrow" about the delivery of my parts list.
Two emails since from me but no reply at all.
A variation on "free beer tomorrow" it seems. :(

Since Rob Left I have not been able to get any orders through. Something is going on over there . I also have gotten emails from Max , but no orders invoiced or sent out . This is the kind of thing that can put buyers off for sure . No dealer , no answers , no parts. BMW ,Triumph and HD all have dealers and nice bikes . I was looking at a Sportster two weeks ago a rubber mount 1200cc.

I will try and place a call to Norton on Monday and see if I can talk to somebody about what is going on .

Maybe he's taking a summer vacation. I wonder if there's another backup person at Norton UK. I received my parts order in late June. I do remember that Max mentioned to me on the phone about a guy named Matt(?) for getting parts.

Have any of you try fitting JW Speaker 8790 Adaptive 2 LED 7 in. headlight in your 961s?

Just letting you guys know that im still here, apologise for the delays . Ntst8, your email could of gotten lost . Would you mind emailing me again ?

Happy to report that my parts have arrived, my thanks to Max,

Does anyone know if the earlier chromed rim from the plastic shell will fit the later metal shell? Or do they need to be changed as a pair? I’m not a huge fan of the all black finish of the later type but am keen to change my earlier plastic shell, which has cracked around the mounting holes. :(

Apologies if this has been asked before...

The rims look externally similar but there would be some fettling involved, even if the rim fits the fixing screw location/orientation is different.

Yup. You can do this. The chrome lip older style has glass lens which is better. Need to use washers between bucket and brackets because if you dont, the bolts deform the shell a little and make the shell oval and the lens will fall out if you hit a big bump. Then the glass breaks.

Hi Richard,
the reason i am replacing my old style headlamp with the newer, apart from looks, is the gap around the glass lens lets the headlamp fill with water on rainy days. Shattered halogen lamp and shorted pilot light are the result.
Am i missing a seal or am i just the only silly so and so who rides in the rain?
If i was to attempt to transplant the chrome rim it wouldn't include the original lens for that reason.
thanks
iain.

I don’t believe you can swap just the bezel. And ive never heard of any leakage. Ive ridden in about 2 hrs of heavy rain once and a few time caught in light rain.

The headlight is a standard one. My dad found an old one from the 50’s with a concave lens and it bolted right up. Ive heard someone got a replacement t100 triumph bucket and a colored lens. There is nothing special about the Norton light assy.

Thanks Richard, interesting reading. In my case about 4 hrs in persistent drizzly rain and there was over an inch of water sloshing around between the lens and the reflector. I’ve had insulation tape sealing the lens to the rim since then, ridden in much heavier rain and no further issue.
The new bucket does look to be a very close match to the spare I have for my 850, apart from idiot light holes.

Thats a lot of water in a place that holds a lot of electrical connections.
