I own a Norton Fastback Year 1969 and I am wondering what kind of decals I should use for the side covers.

I noticed there are two kinds, one is longer (with the 'C' which is detached from the 'o') and one is shorter (with the 'o' which is inside the 'C').
Which one is original for my bike?

Please note that my bike is not the very first type with the roundels on the tank

thank you for your cooperation!

I have a red tank and silver side covers: I guess the decals on the side covers should be gold with black outline and on the tank black with gold outline as original? (I personally would prefer to have black with gold ouline also on the silver side covers, but I guess they are not original..)

Photos, brochure pics. all seem to show gold for '69 Fasback side panel/oil tank ('68 had no decals) but it's up to you, the parts book doesn't actually say 061017 is 'gold'.

thanks
in which case would you use the black with gold outline?
As L.A.B. states, gold with black was in the sales brochure, but it's your bike, so unless you are a stickler for originality, use what you prefer!

on the '69 brochure I can't see decals on the tail light
actually I did not find any also on my bike
can you tell if they were included only on later bikes?

I think that's got to be left up to you. :)

035039 'NORTON' (1), and 061044 'Commando 750' (2)? are listed for the '69 'Tail Section' with no apparent change for 1970 and once again seem to have been gold with a black border.

I can see that Andover is providing dryfix decals, but I guess originally they were waterslide.. can you tell where I can still find the waterslide kind as original? Thank you!

"Four figure reference numbers refer to our waterslide stock and four figure reference numbers suffixed with 'LC' refer to high performance grade (50 micron) vinyl transfers."

I think the side panel items could have been 'dryfix' (vinyl) originally, however, Classic Transfers could probably supply them in waterslide.

unfortunately it seems that Classic Transfers can provide only the reproduction in vinyl so far..

Gold decal used here, my Feb 1969 Fastback has Gold decals Though still fitted with Norton Villiers badges.
The brochure listed as 1969 on this site was published in May 1968. Perhaps this is a late 1968 model with decal on the tank while early 1968 used a badge. In any event this brochure shows black with gold on the tank and gold with black on the oil tank and side cover. Badge models had no script on tank or sidecovers.

There are performance figures quoted from a "Road test published by Motor Cycle News, May 1968".

My February 69 Fastback still has Norton Villiers Badges!
Hmmm...I was under the impression that the badges were dropped late in the '68 production run and all '69's had transfers on the tank and tail. The 68-70 parts manual appears to bear this out.

Does your '69 have a "widowmaker" frame?

No, The good frame export model, all 3 numbers match S/n 130xxx just tipped over 17000 mls on a ride the weekend before last, lovely bike.
