Hi,
My EML still on so taking it to dealer rather than 300 mile trip to factory
But now I have condensation in my speedo and revometer
Has anyone had this problem
All this on 540 miles

I get this on my Thruxton R, it eventually disappears when it's been out in the sun for a while (but it can still return). It may depend on where you keep the bike. My Thruxton is in a metal shed, so it gets cold overnight. The Norton is in the garage so it doesn't get as cold.

It is kept in a new garage in an air controlled tent

Only noticed today when it was sat in sun

I wonder what kind of environment exists in the instrument assemble area.
Cause that air is what gets sealed into the instrument cases.
If the assembly area has humid air, then that's what gets sealed into the instruments.
When the instrument is exposed to the sunlight and warms up, the humidity sealed inside will likely condense into droplets.

No condensation on the 961 clocks but have had this on other bikes. The worse was on ThruxtonR where the condensation formed droplets that obscured the dials, they were eventually swapped under warranty.

If mine continue I will be getting them swapped under warranty too

Parked mine up in the sun today, semi-circle of condensation in rev.counter but not speedo. It wasn't there when I parked after a 40 mile run but was there an hour later for the return trip, it cleared a little by the time I got home. I think it is just a little over-Winter damp that will soon clear itself as Spring temp rises.

No condensation issue, but rather than making a new thread, does anyone know how best to change the backlight on the speedo mk11 961. Light went out on the evening ride back from the last BBQ at the factory last year and it's a bit unerving when you know so many speed cameras are around and you can't see what speed you are doing. Do the front bezels screw off or did I read that you access the clocks from the back, this having to remove the fly screen. TIA

Don't need to remove the fly screen, undo the two bolts that hold the dash to the top yoke then you should be able to access the clocks back covers... not sure if illumination is simple bulb swap or led's which are plug in or soldered. Factory changed my speedo and didn't need to remove flyscreen so I presume that's how they did it.

Welsh,
Don’t think the bezels screw off - Richard7 has been looking for a solution to a problem in one of the clocks and has not been able to get the bezel off.
The clock will detach from the body - hope you are lucky and can replace a bulb/led and it is not part of an integrated circuit.
John

The two dome nuts on the underside of the speedo release the cup from below the speedo. The bezel and body can then be pulled up through the mount, cables still attached so not too far. I managed to unplug the larger cable connector but not the smaller one. The bezel looks as though it is a snap on type and the whole things looks to be a throw away unit - but hopefully someone can prove me wrong.
My speedo backlight isn't working either, my tacho backlight is (so far) so i ride by that on the odd occasion i am out after dark.

My old Sportster bezels are crimped on. After years of laying in the box in the barn the speedo was full of those tiny 'thunder bugs' so I had to remove the bezel. With a great deal of care you can prize the crimp without leaving tool marks and with great care you can re crimp the bezel back in place, I used a burnishing tool for this that I happened to have for my other hobby.

If it doesn't come apart easy, I will leave it to get fixed on the next service some time later this summer

Have you tried the hair dryer trick on it ? That may dry it out ?

Hi Tony, sorry, mine has no condensation, I just posted on this thread about the speedo backlight not workingand if i could change the bulb. Going to have a try this weekend.

Its not a bulb but an LED . It is likely that the bezel/lens will break when you try to force it. (It is bonded/glued Dave C said so and likely to break//crack/damage) Maybe Norton ROB can suggest , but it may need to be sent to VDO . It is a shame its gone bad on such a new machine . As far as I know , it is NOT user replaceable .

This might sound daft but have you changed the illumination setting? I know nothing about the software or the chipset that is controlling the led's illumination but it might just be a failure of the chipset at that setting on that one clock, by changing brightness up/down 1 level MIGHT bring the led back into action....it's a long shot.

I did run it by Rob and I think you maybe right tony. He asked me to check the fuse which I did and that is ok. I think it maybe a sealed unit where you cannot change the light emitter thingymajig because its integrated into the unit. Seems overkill to change the whole thing because of a backlight issue
